Safety, SSHO in Phoenix, Arizona at DAP CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT LLC

DAP Construction Management (DAP) is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to support federal construction projects, including work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and other government agencies. Projects are performed on active federal installations, including military bases.

The SSHO will be responsible for implementing and enforcing site safety programs in accordance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and contract-specific requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of federal safety standards, proactive field presence, and the ability to work closely with project teams and Government representatives.

The SSHO serves as the on-site safety authority, responsible for ensuring all work is performed safely and in full compliance with federal, state, and company safety requirements. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe work environment, preventing incidents, and supporting overall project success.

• Implement and enforce site-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) in accordance with EM 385-1-1

• Monitor daily construction activities to ensure compliance with OSHA, USACE, and contract safety requirements

• Conduct daily safety inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments

• Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety orientations

• Identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately

• Maintain all required safety documentation, logs, and reports

• Coordinate with Government Safety Officers, Quality Assurance Representatives (QARs), and project leadership

• Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety violations; implement corrective actions

• Ensure subcontractor compliance with all safety requirements and site-specific plans

• Support project teams in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized job site

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an SSHO on federal construction projects

• Direct experience working with USACE (Army Corps of Engineers) projects strongly preferred

• In-depth knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and OSHA safety standards

• Current EM 385-1-1 certification (SSHO qualified)

• OSHA 30-hour (or higher) certification required (OSHA 40-hour preferred)

• First Aid/CPR/AED certification (current)

• Strong communication and leadership skills

• Ability to work on active construction sites, including military installations

• Experience with NAVFAC or other federal agencies

• CHST, CSP, or other safety certifications

• Experience managing safety on multiple projects or large-scale federal jobs
