Director, Software Development

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Software Development based in Canada.

This senior leadership role is responsible for driving the strategy, architecture, and delivery of large-scale data and API platforms that power critical audience and healthcare intelligence capabilities. You will lead a distributed organization of engineering managers and senior engineers, shaping how global teams design, build, and operate high-performance systems. The role combines deep technical ownership with executive-level leadership, requiring alignment across product, data, and commercial stakeholders. You will oversee the evolution of cloud-native platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across complex data ecosystems. This is a highly visible position where your decisions directly influence platform performance, engineering maturity, and business outcomes. The environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and focused on building systems that support mission-critical healthcare and data-driven products at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and scale a global engineering organization composed of engineering managers, senior engineers, and distributed delivery teams (including contractors and vendors).
  • Define and execute the technical strategy for API platforms, data systems, and integration layers aligned with broader business priorities.
  • Own the architecture, delivery, and operational performance of large-scale data platforms supporting audience and identity capabilities.
  • Ensure engineering consistency across the full SDLC, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, and production operations.
  • Partner closely with Product, Data, and Commercial leaders to align roadmap execution with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Drive platform reliability, scalability, and performance across cloud-native environments and distributed systems.
  • Manage operational planning, budgets, vendor relationships, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Build, coach, and develop engineering leaders while establishing strong succession planning and leadership pipelines.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high-quality engineering delivery.
Requirements:
  • 12+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on large-scale systems and engineering leadership.
  • 8+ years of experience leading engineering managers and senior technical leaders in global, distributed environments.
  • Proven success in product-led organizations with strong cross-functional collaboration between engineering, product, and business teams.
  • Deep expertise in API architecture (REST, GraphQL), distributed systems, and platform integration.
  • Strong background in data engineering and large-scale data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Spark).
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures, particularly AWS, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and modern DevOps practices.
  • Solid backend engineering knowledge (Python, Java, Node.js) and experience with modern system design patterns.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems into scalable, cloud-based platforms is highly valuable.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with a track record of driving business-aligned technical execution.
  • Ability to build high-performing engineering cultures focused on delivery excellence and innovation.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary ranging from approximately $119,900 to $334,200 annually, depending on experience and location.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and wellness benefits package.
  • Performance-based incentives, bonuses, and additional compensation opportunities.
  • Flexible work arrangements depending on role and team requirements.
  • Strong focus on professional development, leadership growth, and career progression.
  • Opportunity to lead large-scale, high-impact engineering platforms in a global organization.
  • Inclusive and equitable workplace culture with strong commitments to diversity and integrity.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge data, AI, and cloud-native technologies in a mission-driven environment.
