Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a (Senior) BESS Engineer based in Brazil.
This role sits at the core of the energy transition, where advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) are essential to enabling a stable, renewable-powered grid. You will act as a key technical interface between customers and the platform, supporting the full lifecycle of battery assets from onboarding through performance optimization. The position combines hands-on engineering with customer-facing responsibility across the Americas. You will work closely with asset owners, O&M teams, and developers to ensure battery systems perform safely, efficiently, and at scale. The role spans technical pre-sales support, data architecture validation, KPI deployment, and deep performance diagnostics. It is a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment where engineering insight directly shapes real-world energy outcomes.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers across the Americas, building strong relationships with both technical and commercial stakeholders in BESS projects.
- Support pre-sales activities including technical discovery, data-readiness assessments, and system architecture discussions in collaboration with sales and solution engineering teams.
- Lead customer onboarding by analyzing system documentation such as Single Line Diagrams, mapping sensor hierarchies, and configuring data pipelines and KPI frameworks.
- Manage KPI rollout and validation processes, identifying and resolving data quality issues, sensor inconsistencies, and aggregation or ingestion errors.
- Conduct advanced performance analysis during commissioning and operational phases, including capacity testing, anomaly detection, and degradation assessment.
- Translate technical findings into clear, executive-ready insights for customers and internal teams, while identifying recurring product improvement opportunities.
- Deliver technical training sessions for performance engineers, asset managers, and O&M teams across customer organizations.
- Occasionally travel (up to ~25%) across the Americas for on-site support and customer engagement.
- Proven experience in the BESS industry, ideally as a performance engineer, systems engineer, or O&M engineer involved in commissioning and early asset operation.
- Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery behavior, including degradation mechanisms, capacity fade, internal resistance, SoC estimation, and thermal/voltage imbalances.
- Experience working with BESS data systems and communication protocols such as Modbus, IEC-104, OPC-UA, REST APIs, or SFTP.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, including sensor data processing, signal validation, and anomaly detection; Databricks experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with US power markets and ISO/RTO structures such as CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, ISO-NE, or NYISO.
- Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to translate complex technical insights into clear, actionable messaging for customers.
- Highly organized, customer-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, international startup environment.
- Degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on BESS industry experience.
- Fully remote-first working model with high autonomy and flexibility
- Equity participation through a stock-option program
- Health coverage and retirement benefits (e.g., 401(k))
- Regular team offsites and in-person collaboration events
- Annual company-wide kick-off event in Munich
- Opportunity to work at the forefront of battery analytics and the global energy transition
- High-impact role directly influencing the performance of large-scale renewable energy assets
