POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in overseeing the daily clinical operations of the nursing department to ensure the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care. This leadership role provides clinical supervision, staff coaching and development, regulatory compliance oversight, and operational support while promoting quality outcomes, resident safety, and exceptional customer service. The ADON serves as a clinical resource for the interdisciplinary team, assists with staffing and workflow management, responds to changes in resident condition, and assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing, ensuring compliance with all organizational policies and state and federal regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Models a service and solutions-oriented attitude towards others, takes ownership in solving problems and takes the initiative to make things better, is friendly and courteous to residents, patients and co-workers
2. Ensure resident/patient, visitor, and co-worker safety by remaining aware of and reporting any new or existing safety hazards
3. Maintain good attendance record
4. Recruit, hire, train, coach, and evaluate departmental staff (management staff only)
5. Assumes responsibilities of the Director of Nursing (DON) in the absence of the DON
6. Demonstrates appropriate physical assessment skills for initial and follow-up appraisal of resident status. Possesses an adequate knowledge of clinical diseases
7. Demonstrates ability to perform nursing treatments and procedures as prescribed for residents assigned. Administers those treatments in an appropriate manner
8. Demonstrates adequate knowledge of specialized diets and medications commonly prescribed to residents and administers appropriate medications
9. Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of rehabilitative and preventative aspects of care and ensures resident safety, comfort and protection
10. Ensures that all residents under his/her direct supervision is provided with care and services to attain or maintain the highest practical physical, mental and psychosocial well-being, i.e. maintain current weight, prevent pressure ulcers, maintain or improve self-care abilities
11. Supervises and directs care to residents by Med. Aides and CNA's in an appropriate manner. Ensures continuity of care by appropriate directing, teaching and counseling the support staff
12. Practices standard infection control techniques
13. Promptly reviews, revises and confirms staff assignments at the beginning of the shift, to ensure all residents are assigned a caregiver.Make rounds every 3-4 hours to assess the resident's clinical condition and productivity of the assigned staff
14. Notify MD, family, administrative staff and direct care providers of resident's change in condition and necessary follow-up
15. Ensures residents receive prescribed diets, monitors meal percentages, offers substitutes when appropriate, reports weight loss to Nursing Clinical Coordinators and MD, and provides appropriate interventions for weight loss
16. Complete admission, transfer and discharge information as indicated
17. Ensures all emergency equipment is available and functional on assigned unit
18. Complete an incident report as indicated and ensure adequate follow up is completed until resident is stable and /or incident resolved
19. Documents notes on each resident reflecting skilled care, resident instruction and resident/family response, doctor notification, a specific plan for ongoing care
20. Submits written plans of treatment reflecting status and nursing care plans in a timely and accurate manner
21. Documents a monthly summary and PRN nursing progress notes that reflects the care provided as scheduled. Ensure vital signs and weights are completed and documented
22. Follows documentation procedures as required by PVN, State and Federal regulations Uses accurate terminology
23. Completes census information as required
24. Communicates unresolved work-related problems using chain of command, consistently demonstrates effective problem-solving skills and handles confidential information appropriately
25. Demonstrates flexibility with a changing workload/caseload, sets priorities accordingly and carries out job assignments in a self-directed manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Texas LVN or RN license
2. Demonstrated supervisory and managerial skills
3. Knowledge of current professional nursing theory and practice
4. Excellent technical, assessment and documented skills
5. Ability to organize workflow, respond to emergencies and note detail
6. Ability to maintain a positive, stable disposition in performing work in association with staff and residents. Ability to maintain a high level of performance in an environment of frequent demands and changes
7. Ability to perform Essential Duties as outlined below
8. Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
9. Genuine caring for and interest in the care of mature adults, handicapped people and hospice Patients
10. Ability to perform work tasks within the Physical Demand Requirements as outlined below
