About The Role
As a Trainer - Full Underwriter in our Operations department, you will play a key role in developing, delivering, and maintaining high-quality training programs for our full underwriting teams. You will be responsible for equipping underwriters with the technical knowledge, risk assessment skills, and process expertise needed to make sound underwriting decisions while adhering to company policies, regulatory guidelines, and service-level expectations. In this salaried, full-time role, you will collaborate closely with operations leaders, subject matter experts, and quality assurance teams to identify training needs, close performance gaps, and support continuous improvement across the underwriting function.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and deliver training programs focused on full underwriting processes, policies, and systems for new hires and existing staff.
- Facilitate instructor-led training (virtual and in-person) to support onboarding, upskilling, cross-training, and ongoing education of underwriters.
- Translate complex underwriting guidelines, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory requirements into clear, practical learning content.
- Create and maintain training materials including facilitator guides, participant workbooks, job aids, e-learning modules, and assessments.
- Conduct regular needs analyses in partnership with Operations leadership and Quality/Compliance teams to identify performance gaps and training opportunities.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, feedback surveys, scorecards, and performance metrics, and adjust content or approach as needed.
- Provide one-on-one and small group coaching to underwriters to reinforce learning, improve decision quality, and support professional development.
- Support change management initiatives by developing and delivering training for new products, systems, workflows, and policy updates.
- Maintain accurate training records, attendance logs, completion data, and certification status in accordance with company standards.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure training content remains current, compliant, and aligned with evolving business and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a resource to leaders and team members by answering questions and clarifying underwriting guidelines, procedures, and best practices.
- Participate in calibration and quality review sessions to stay current on underwriting expectations and integrate learning from quality findings into training.
- Recommend process and policy improvements based on recurring questions, training feedback, and observed gaps in underwriting execution.
- Stay informed on industry trends, underwriting practices, and adult learning methodologies to continuously enhance training design and delivery.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in full underwriting, preferably within insurance, financial services, or a closely related industry.
- Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and decision-making frameworks.
- Experience delivering training or coaching in a professional setting; prior role as a trainer, mentor, or team lead is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to explain complex concepts clearly and translate policies and guidelines into practical, real-world scenarios.
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training initiatives, schedules, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Comfort with virtual training platforms and standard business software (e.g., presentation tools, learning management systems, spreadsheets).
- Ability to analyze performance data and quality metrics to identify training needs and measure program effectiveness.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality in all training materials and interactions.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to build effective working relationships with operations teams, leaders, and subject matter experts.
- Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced environment with evolving products, processes, and regulatory expectations.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, education, finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
