JOB RELATIONSHIPS

• Supervises Surgical Instrument Technician and OR Attendants. Responsible to Registered Nurse (circulator) and Director of Surgical Services.

DEFINITION OF POSITION

• The Surgical Technologist is a member of the surgical team who primarily acts as the scrub person, handling instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The Surgical Technologist assists anesthesia personnel, surgeons, registered nurses, instrument technicians, and OR attendants in providing optimal patient care before, during, and after surgery.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Professional

  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.

  • Surgical Technologist certification required (new graduates have a year from hire date to complete this requirement). Meets continuing education requirements annually.

  • Current AHA BLS certification required.
