POSITION PURPOSE
The Transportation Training Supervisor is responsible for supervising the training needs of the Road Supervisors, Bus Rapid Transit Supervisors, Dispatch Supervisors and the Julia M. Carson Transit Center Supervisors. This position ensures that all corporate policies and regulations are introduced and updated appropriately as needed by annual In-service Training Sessions. Additional training through National Transit Institute is facilitated.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Facilitate training for new and existing supervisors on the corporation’s policies and procedures.
- Develops and improves new and existing training programs.
- Conducts quarterly performance evaluations.
- Act as subject matter expert in related training area.
- Drafts technical/instructional language for Supervisory Training programs.
- Ability to train supervisors to investigate customer complaints and resolve passenger disputes related to the provision of service.
- Facilitates training on accident investigations, including but not limited to the scene of accident management, compiling information, and executing company policy on post-accident procedures.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Makes recommendations to management to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes.
- Works cooperatively to provide superior customer service.
- Manages and responds to Transportation Department issues after normal business hours.
- Utilizes radio equipment and initiates communication with the city’s police, safety and fire departments and local construction companies about issues affecting service.
- Writes and distributes informative communications for the stakeholders about services, schedules, and essential changes due to emergencies, special events, and circumstances.
- Partners with essential departments to ensure Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration Drug & Alcohol Program compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Confer with Managers to discuss course goals and objectives.
- Identify training needs by evaluating strengths and weaknesses of Supervisors.
- Develop and deliver a curriculum that addresses course objectives.
- Provide feedback to Supervisor that will enhance their professional growth.
- Provide progress reports to Management on supervisor training.
- Provide recommendations to Management regarding supervisors not making adequate progress.
- Attend meetings to evaluate Supervisor requirements and determine strategies for implementation.
- Submit curriculum evaluation for the purpose of improving Supervisor training program.
- Applies supervisory responsibilities according to organizational policies, collective bargaining agreement, and applicable laws.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education/experience:
- High school diploma, equivalent or associate degree in business administration or related field preferred.
- Must have Class B CDL with passenger endorsement, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date required.
- No more than two active points on your driver’s license within the previous thirty-six (36) months.
- Passenger Transportation experience preferred.
- Previous Road/Julia M. Carson Transit Center supervisory experience of three (3) years minimum or training experience equivalent
- Ability to quickly learn how to establish and maintain a module-based training manual and testing system in the Learning Management System.
INTERNAL APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
- No more than one (1) preventable motor vehicle accident within the previous twelve (12) months. (Applies to existing employees)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Knowledge of streets, landmarks, and geography of Marion County and IndyGo bus routes.
- Principles and practices of organizational development, management, and leadership training.
- Design and preparation of audio-visual training tools.
- Training procedures, techniques, and materials, mainly as used in a classroom or field setting.
- Knowledge of vendors, consultants, and potential training courses or materials sources.
- Procedures, policies, and techniques relating to the specific subject matter to be taught.
- Advanced principles, methods, and techniques for designing and facilitating training programs.
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate with groups.
- Principles of learning theories and techniques including adult training theory.
- Ability to adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal laws governing the operation of public transit vehicles.
- Ability to operate all corporation vehicles.
- Proficiency in using a computer and related technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and LMS).
- Ability to prioritize, organize and manage tasks and time effectively.
- Interpret and explain training policies and procedures.
- Coordinating and conducting training and development programs.
- Conduct training sessions in the classroom, at the Carson Transit Center and on the road.
- Preparing training proposals
- Ability to master the use of Avail, Swiftly, Trackit, and Hastus systems.
- Ability to operate laptops, tablets, and two-way communication devices, including troubleshooting basic techniques.
- Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, and phones.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with individuals and groups regarding corporation policies and procedures, using tact, patience, and courtesy in dealing with angry or upset individuals.
- Ability to make decisions in a time-sensitive environment.
- Basic mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to process and analyze data.
- Ability to lead, influence, and motivate others.

- Travel is required between all IndyGo facilities and throughout the Road Supervisors assigned districts.
