Description:

Teller County’s Administrative Department is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant to play a pivotal role in supporting the County Support & Emergency Manager, the County Administrator, and the Board of County Commissioners. This position assists with the smooth operation of County Administration through a blend of technical, clerical, fiscal, and communications functions. The role demands high-level organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and precision.

What You'll Do:

Provides administrative and operational support for the County Administration Department, including reception, correspondence, scheduling, records management, and maintenance of departmental files. Act as backup to the County Support & Emergency Manager as needed.

Assist in preparing agendas, sub-agendas, and notices for regular and special Board meetings; assemble and distribute information packets.

Draft resolutions and proposed Board actions under the direction of the Office Manager and County Attorney.

Research, write, and administer grants to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements; prepare reimbursement statements and review for accuracy.

Support departments in grant development and presentation preparation for Board review.

Monitor and file County liability, casualty, and property claims and assist with annual CAPP renewals.

Oversee departmental expenditures, prepare accounts payable vouchers, and ensure budgetary compliance.

Contribute to the development and preparation of the annual budget.

Coordinate tasks related to the County Board of Equalization (CBOE) and the County Board of Adjustment.

Provide public-facing support, including guidance on departmental operations and special event permits.

Processing of Colorado Open Records (CORA) requests.

Processing of Special Events Permits, Parks Use Permits, and assist with planning and implementation of county events.

Monitor community feedback across digital platforms and relay insights to leadership for responsive action.

Assist in crafting public statements, announcements, and digital campaigns aligned with County initiatives.

Support outreach efforts for public meetings, events, and surveys to encourage resident participation and feedback.

Requirements:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in public-facing administrative role
  • Grant writing experience preferred
  • Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

You Also Have These Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of: local government, office procedures and equipment; social media platforms; scheduling tools; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skilled in: use of basic computer software programs; understanding and applying pertinent laws, rules, regulations and policies; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; maintaining confidentiality; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up on assignments; initiating and responding to medium volume of daily calls/contact; interacting with all levels of internal and external professionals while developing strong productive relationships; designing strategies, analyzing results and making recommendations; organization and time management.

Ability to: maintain confidentiality and discretion; be a self-starter; successfully accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously while working independently or within a team environment; work with minimal supervision; interact with a variety of people, cultures, problems and circumstances; analyze and resolve problems involving several variables; understand and carry out written and oral instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public.

Additional Details About the Role:

Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking: Must be able to write and read; able to hear, see and speak.

Physical Effort/Dexterity: This position works in an office setting with daily routine computer usage; requires the ability to drive a vehicle; light physical exertion and the normal range of motion and dexterity; ability to sit (sometimes for extended periods of time), stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl or climb; ability to lift, pull or drag up to 25 lbs. for short periods of time.

Environmental Factors: Work is generally performed in an office setting; occasional local travel may be required.

Work Schedule/Characteristics: 40 hours per week; availability outside normal business hours to include weekends and holidays may be required

License/Certification Requirements: Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Additional Requirements: Must pass conditional post offer background investigation and motor vehicle record check.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $23.69 - $24.88 / hour

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Location: Cripple Creek, on site
