Schedule: M/F, 9:00 to 5:30 with one hour midday break, 37.5 hour work week
Job Summary:
The Case Investigator will be responsible for the systematic collection of evidence, records, and background information essential to building strong personal injury cases. This non-attorney role focuses on thorough, investigative work, and close collaboration with attorney(s) to ensure complete, ethical, and timely case development from intake through resolution.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive evidence gathering across all phases of personal injury case development, including initial client interactions, background checks, claim management, police/incident records, insurance documentation, property damage records, scene evidence, witness statements, and defendant company research.
- Conduct background checks on clients and defendants (bankruptcies, driving records, prior claims/lawsuits, TxDOT records, pharmacy/group health data, etc.), open claims, draft and send Letters of Representation, obtain police reports and 911 audio, secure insurance carrier updates (PIP, UM/UIM, declaration pages), collect scene evidence (dashcam, surveillance, witness statements), and perform corporate defendant research (SOS, OSHA, social media, court files).
- Communicate investigative findings to attorney(s) routinely and follow up as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of evidence obtainment dates, ensure chain of custody, organize digital files, and track case-specific deadlines and metrics.
- Prioritize and balance workload to support multiple cases simultaneously.
- Deliver high-quality investigative work that improves case strength and resolution speed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Work related experience in personal injury case elements (LORs, liability decisions, PIP/UM/UIM, police records, background databases).
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize, solve problems, and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Proficiency with investigative tools and databases (e.g. COBAN, TxDOT, SOS, TDI, PACER).
- Excellent written and verbal communication for attorney reporting.
- High ethical standards, attention to detail, and ability to handle sensitive/confidential information.
- Proficiency with case management software (e.g., Litify,) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, legal studies, paralegal studies, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
- 3+ years of experience in claims adjusting, private investigation, paralegal/litigation support, or related fields.
