Job Description

Akira Technologies is seeking a Senior Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to execute day-to-day cybersecurity operations supporting mission systems across Department of Defense unclassified and classified environments. This role ensures systems maintain continuous compliance and authorization readiness by implementing, validating, and sustaining technical security controls in alignment with Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements and approved security baselines.

The Senior ISSO plays a critical role in safeguarding mission-critical systems by conducting technical security assessments, managing continuous monitoring activities, supporting incident response, and ensuring audit-ready documentation across enterprise security platforms.

This is an onsite role supporting client location in Washington, DC area; ideal candidates should be local or willing to relocate. This role requires an active security clearance of Secret or higher.

Job Responsibilities

  • Execute day-to-day cybersecurity operations supporting DoD mission systems in both unclassified and classified environments.
  • Implement, validate, and maintain technical security controls in alignment with RMF requirements and approved security baselines.
  • Conduct vulnerability scanning, configuration validation, and compliance assessments using tools such as Tenable, Splunk, SCAP scanners, Active Directory, VMware, and endpoint security platforms.
  • Process security-related change requests by assessing technical impact, documenting control changes, and coordinating implementation with system administrators and DevSecOps teams.
  • Maintain continuous monitoring evidence including scan results, configuration artifacts, control test outputs, and incident documentation within eMASS and SharePoint repositories.
  • Investigate cybersecurity incidents, anomalous activity, and policy violations; support containment, remediation, and reporting in coordination with incident response teams and senior security leadership.
  • Track vulnerability remediation efforts, verify corrective actions, and ensure system security documentation accurately reflects current security posture.
  • Support security control testing, assessment preparation, and audit engagements by providing accurate, traceable technical evidence.
  • Contribute to system authorization readiness and sustainment through disciplined execution of RMF processes and continuous monitoring requirements.
  • Coordinate with technical teams to ensure timely remediation of vulnerabilities and compliance gaps.
  • Maintain strong documentation practices supporting audits, inspections, and authorization decisions.

Job Qualifications

  • Active Secret clearance or higher.
  • IAM Level I Certification required (one of the following):
    • CompTIA Security+ CE
    • ISC² CAP
    • ISC² SSCP
    • GIAC GSLC
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity, information assurance, or information security roles supporting DoD or federal systems.
  • Hands-on experience with RMF processes and continuous monitoring requirements.
  • Experience conducting vulnerability management, security assessments, and compliance validation.
  • Familiarity with enterprise cybersecurity and system administration tools including Tenable, Splunk, SCAP tools, Active Directory, VMware, and endpoint security platforms.
  • Strong understanding of security control frameworks, technical baselines, and authorization documentation requirements.
  • Ability to analyze technical security issues and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD, Combatant Commands, Defense Agencies, or Intelligence Community environments.
  • Experience working with eMASS for authorization package management and continuous monitoring documentation.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps environments and Agile delivery models.
  • Experience supporting security audits, inspections, and formal assessment events.
  • Knowledge of incident response processes, triage workflows, and cybersecurity reporting requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with system administrators, engineers, and cloud infrastructure teams in hybrid environments.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000

Akira’s pay range for this position considers various factors including skills, years of experience, training, licenses, certifications, alignment with market data, and internal equity in the organization.
