Staff Accountant
Position Overview: The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records. This role manages general ledger activity, supports the month-end close process, and ensures financial transactions are recorded in accordance with accounting standards. In a contract furniture environment, the position also works closely with operations, project management, and procurement teams to properly account for project costs, inventory, and project-based revenue.

YOUR ROLE
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including inventory, cost of goods sold, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses.
- Prepare and post journal entries for month-end and year-end close.
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate variances or discrepancies.
- Support inventory accounting, including inventory adjustments, and cost analysis related to furniture procurement.
- Assist with project-based accounting related to contract furniture installations and large customer projects.
- Monitor cost allocations for materials, labor, and overhead within the manufacturing or project environment.
- Prepare financial reports and schedules for internal management.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting by providing historical financial data and variance analysis.
- Support external audits and internal compliance by preparing documentation and reconciliations.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Maintain fixed asset records for showroom assets
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, retail, or contract furniture environments.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
- Experience with inventory accounting and cost accounting is preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems (such as NetSuite or similar).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with project accounting or job costing.
- Background in construction, retail, or contract furniture-related industries.
