Description:

The C.T. Technician performs specialized diagnostic imaging procedures using computed tomography equipment to assist providers in patient diagnosis and treatment planning. This position is responsible for preparing patients, administering contrast media when required, and operating advanced imaging technology with a high degree of technical precision. The C.T. Technician establishes a professional clinical culture and promotes ethical standards to maintain a welcoming environment that reflects the Tribe’s culture, vision, and values. Key responsibilities include ensuring strict radiation safety protocols, maintaining imaging equipment, and managing digital records within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and PACS systems.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform high-quality CT scans of various anatomical structures according to established clinical protocols and provider orders.
  • Prepare and position patients accurately for CT procedures, obtaining informed consent prior to imaging as required and ensuring proper documentation, while ensuring optimal imaging results and minimizing physical discomfort.
  • Administer oral or intravenous contrast media under the direction of a provider, monitoring patients for any adverse reactions.
  • Operate sophisticated CT scanners and associated software to reconstruct and manipulate diagnostic images.
  • Ensure strict adherence to radiation safety standards (ALARA—As Low As Reasonably Achievable) for both patients and staff.
  • Review and evaluate processed images for technical quality, ensuring all required views are captured before patient discharge.
  • Maintain accurate patient electronic records, including procedure notes, consent forms, and radiation dose documentation.
  • Perform daily equipment calibrations and quality control (QC) checks to ensure scanner accuracy and safety.
  • Coordinate the transfer of digital images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for radiologist interpretation.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate with specialized vendors for necessary repairs or preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized imaging suite, adhering to all infection control and Health Department safety standards.
  • Explain procedures clearly to patients and families to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation during the imaging process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Advanced technical proficiency in operating CT scanning equipment and image reconstruction software.
  • Thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and the clinical application of various CT protocols.
  • Skill in performing venipuncture and safely administering contrast agents.
  • Strong understanding of radiation physics and the ability to implement rigorous safety measures.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) and PACS for image and data management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for calming and instructing patients during diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical judgments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure technical accuracy and proper patient identification.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and a commitment to maintaining strict patient privacy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical software issues and hardware errors efficiently.
  • Cultural competency and awareness regarding the community and tribal health needs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a professional and welcoming environment for all.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
  • Current certification and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R).
  • Post-primary certification in Computed Tomography (CT) preferred or required within a specified timeframe.
  • Valid Oklahoma license to practice as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a CT Technician, preferably in a clinical or diagnostic imaging setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand and move for prolonged periods during imaging shifts.
  • Capacity to lift, push, and position patients or heavy imaging accessories weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating scanner controls, keyboards, and medical equipment.
  • Visual acuity necessary for reviewing high-resolution diagnostic images and monitoring equipment displays.
  • Ability to work in a clinical environment with potential exposure to ionizing radiation and infectious diseases.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successful completion of applicable tribal drug test.
  • Successful completion of applicable tribal background check.
  • Must pass background investigation for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
  • Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap), Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), and Varicella vaccinations, with proof of previous vaccinations or proof of positive titer.
