Cardiac Monitor Technician – Medical/Surgical Unit
Position Summary
Stillwater Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and highly attentive Cardiac Monitor Technician to join our Medical/Surgical team. This role is essential in supporting patient safety through continuous cardiac monitoring, early identification of clinical changes, and timely communication with nursing staff.
The Cardiac Monitor Technician plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality patient care by maintaining vigilance, accuracy, and collaboration in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide continuous surveillance of cardiac telemetry and/or video monitoring systems
- Promptly recognize and report rhythm changes or patient condition concerns to the Charge Nurse or RN
- Initiate and discontinue telemetry monitoring per physician orders
- Prepare, manage, and ensure proper application of telemetry equipment
- Accurately document cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmia strips, and patient monitoring data in the EMR
- Maintain telemetry logs, records, and monitoring documentation
- Ensure monitoring equipment functionality; collaborate with Biomed and IT as needed
- Support patient safety through timely communication and escalation of concerns
- Assist in training and precepting new staff as needed
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care
Work Environment & Team Structure
- Reports directly to the Charge Nurse and Clinical Manager/Director
- Functions within a collaborative, team-based care model
- Participates in unit-based self-scheduling and on-call rotations as needed
- Completes all required competencies and ongoing education

Additional Details:

"As needed" varied positoin. Shifts will vary, could be 12 hours at a time, and will include some weekends.

6 months monitor tech experience is required since this is a PRN position.

Ability to cross train to fill unit secretary shifts as needed

Minimum age of 18-years/high-school graduate.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to function in stressful situations.

Preferably prior experience in cardiac monitoring of at least one year.

Basic computer literacy.

Work is sedentary in nature, with some standing and walking.

Demonstrates adequate vision, or correctable with glasses, to read and write.

Able to hear, or correctable with hearing devices, and able to talk to converse with others in person and over the phone.

Able to hear, see, and feel to accurately assess and monitor patients.

Able to frequently lift at least 60 lbs., reach, pull, push, bend, stoop, and kneel.

Able to work in latex burdened environment.
