Job Summary

The Veterinary Technician, plays a critical role in supporting our veterinarians and ensures the highest standard of care for our patients. The role will assist with examinations, treatments, surgical procedures and diagnostics, while also providing compassionate support to clients and their pets. The Veterinary Technician is vital to the smooth and efficient operation of the clinic and is expected to work collaboratively with the entire team to deliver exceptional care and service.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provides compassionate, hands-on care to all patients, ensuring comfort, safety and well-being
  • Assists the doctors with physical exams, record vital signs and clinical observations and administer medications and injections per hospital protocols
  • Performs diagnostics including radiographs, EKGs, lab sample collection (i.e. blood, urine, fecal) and in-house testing (i.e. heartworm, skin scrapings, urinalysis)
  • Prepares and maintains exam rooms, treatment areas and equipment to support smooth clinical operations
  • Interprets canine body language and follows safe handling guidelines
  • Educates and supports clients during patient admissions, discharges and follow-ups, including home care guidance and medication instruction
  • Ensures patients are clean, groomed and in appropriate medical condition
  • Maintains a clean organized hospital environment while adhering to OSHA safety standards and infection control protocols
  • Makes follow-up calls to support continued care and client satisfaction
  • Accurately documents patient information, including vitals, vaccine records and SOAP notes, in medical files
  • Assists with evacuation of all animals if an emergency occurs

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional work experience as a Veterinary Technician
  • Genuinely enjoys helping people and their pets.
  • Can handle stress when animals are ill or in pain
  • Shows patience and empathy to clients that are emotionally charged and in all interactions
  • Highly organized
  • Works well in a team setting
  • Able to shift priorities in accordance with unexpected events
  • Remains calm and efficient during a medical crisis
  • Comfortable interacting with animals of all breeds and sizes
  • Passionate about animal welfare; treats all animals with compassion and kindness

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates Degree preferred

Computer Skills

  • Must be able to learn and use all appropriate technology to effectively perform role
  • Must be able to learn and easily adapt to new technology to meet business needs

Physical Demands

  • Regular standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching and climbing
  • Lift and carry up to 50lbs regularly and up to 175lbs with appropriate assist
  • Safely handle and walk large dogs, manage strong leash pulling
  • Sufficient manual dexterity for all tasks
  • Ability to hear animal vocalizations and verbal instructions clearly
  • Visual acuity to observe animal behavior, detect distress/illness and read materials

Working Conditions

  • Potential exposure to dog and cat bites
  • Potential exposure to contagious disease or infection
  • Exposure to contaminants
  • Exposure to extreme weather (i.e. heat and cold)
  • Must work around pet hair and dander

The pay range for this role is:
26 - 30 USD per hour(JMPRVC)
