Senior Safety Manager in Tennessee, Illinois at TLD Logistics Services Inc

Responsible for the overall leadership, management and performance of Safety ensuring the operation complies with a variety of federal and state laws that regulate the trucking and transportation industry, including the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responsible for all aspects of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and Corporate Safety regulatory compliance.
• Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on DOT regulations, driver qualification requirements, Hours of Service (HOS), drug and alcohol testing, vehicle inspections, and other FMCSA compliance requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local transportation and workplace safety regulations.
• Must be knowledgeable in CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) and capable of managing TLD’s performance to maintain CSA scores below intervention thresholds.
• Lead the organization’s safety and compliance programs, fostering a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement mindset.
• Ensure safety guidelines are met and actively lead the “Safety First” initiative throughout the organization.
• Oversee accident, injury, and DOT-reportable crash investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Manage accident and claims reporting both internally and externally.
• Coordinate post-accident equipment repairs with Operations and Maintenance Departments to minimize downtime.
• Develop, implement, and maintain safety and compliance policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), including the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs.
• Responsible for the implementation and management of safety systems, technologies, and compliance monitoring tools.
• Develop, plan, schedule, and deliver DOT, OSHA, and company safety training programs for drivers, supervisors, and employees.
• Facilitate new hire safety onboarding and orientation.
• Conduct internal safety and regulatory audits and participate in customer, DOT, and third-party audits as required.
• Actively coach and assist leaders and team members to promote accountability and a consistent understanding of safety and regulatory compliance expectations.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, compliance, and operational performance.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in safety management, engineering or related field. Equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible management experience in transportation, logistics, or safety may be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, fleet safety, or DOT compliance.
• Demonstrated experience managing DOT/FMCSA compliance programs, including Driver Qualification (DQ) files, Hours of Service (HOS), CSA performance, DOT drug and alcohol testing, vehicle inspections, and regulatory audits.
• Certifications Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Director/Professional of Safety (CDS/CSP) is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and applicable state and federal transportation regulations.
• Experience conducting accident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
• Experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with transportation management systems (TMS), ELD platforms, or safety/compliance software preferred.
• Strong organizational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and exercise sound judgment.
• Detail-oriented with a demonstrated commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
