About the Vertical. Customers Bank is one of the few federally regulated U.S. banks with a dedicated digital asset franchise. Our cubiX instant payments platform processed over $2 trillion in 2025, serving institutional clients including major exchanges, stablecoin issuers, trading firms, and asset managers. The BDO role sits at the center of this growth story.
The Opportunity
Customers Bank is seeking a commercially driven Business Development Officer to grow and deepen our institutional digital asset client base. You will originate, structure, and close new deposit and banking relationships with crypto-native firms, fintech companies, and institutional participants operating in the digital asset ecosystem — leveraging the bank's cubiX platform, instant payment rails (RTP, FedNow, ACH, wires), and the trusted infrastructure we have built as one of the leading digital asset banks in the country.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute a targeted business development strategy to originate new institutional relationships within the digital asset ecosystem — including exchanges, stablecoin issuers, custodians, trading desks, crypto funds, and Web3 infrastructure companies.
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of prospective clients, driving full-cycle business development from initial outreach through onboarding.
- Serve as a senior relationship owner for strategic accounts, partnering with Treasury, Compliance, Legal, and Operations to deliver a seamless client experience.
- Represent Customers Bank at industry conferences, roundtables, and forums within the digital asset and fintech sectors to elevate brand presence and generate deal flow.
- Collaborate closely with the cubiX product and payments teams to develop tailored solutions around instant settlement, operating accounts, and liquidity management for institutional clients.
- Work in partnership with BSA/AML and compliance teams to ensure all prospective clients meet the bank's rigorous due diligence standards and risk appetite.
- Provide market intelligence and client feedback to inform product development, pricing strategy, and vertical growth planning.
- Own deposit and relationship revenue targets within the digital asset vertical, reporting directly to senior vertical leadership.
What You Bring
- 5+ years in institutional sales, business development, or relationship management within banking, fintech, or digital assets.
- Deep familiarity with the digital asset ecosystem — exchanges, stablecoins, DeFi, tokenization, and on-chain payments.
- Proven track record of originating and closing complex institutional banking relationships.
- Understanding of U.S. banking regulation as it applies to digital assets, including BSA/AML, OFAC, and FinCEN requirements.
- Existing network of contacts at crypto-native firms, digital asset funds, or fintech companies.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to operate at C-suite level.
- Comfort navigating a fast-moving, compliance-conscious environment with competing priorities.
Nice to Have
- Experience at a digital-asset-friendly bank (e.g., Silvergate, Signature, or similar).
- Familiarity with instant payment rails — RTP, FedNow, or real-time settlement infrastructure.
- Background in Treasury sales, cash management, or transaction banking for institutional clients.
- Knowledge of stablecoin issuance, tokenized assets, or blockchain-based payment networks.
- Series 7 or other relevant financial licensing (preferred, not required).
Why Customers Bank
- One of the only regulated U.S. banks with a mature, active digital asset banking franchise and multi-billion dollar deposit base in the vertical.
- cubiX platform with $500B+ quarterly network activity and expanding payment rails across RTP, FedNow, ACH, and wires.
- High-growth environment: total assets of $25.9B, deposits up 14% YoY, and a Net Promoter Score of 81 — well above the banking industry average.
- Significant investment in AI and technology infrastructure, with partnerships with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft.
- Agile, high-caliber team with a single-point-of-contact model and 24/7/365 client service commitment.
