Director, Software Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Software Engineering based in United States.

Accountabilities:

The Director, Software Engineering will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for developing reliable, scalable, and secure software solutions. This role requires strong technical leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to create an environment where teams can deliver meaningful business value.

  • Oversee and support multiple software development teams, ensuring alignment with product strategy, technical priorities, and business objectives.
  • Develop and execute engineering strategies that improve scalability, reliability, security, and customer experience.
  • Lead hiring initiatives, workforce planning, team development, and organizational growth strategies.
  • Mentor engineering managers, team leads, and individual contributors to strengthen technical capabilities and leadership skills.
  • Promote engineering excellence through modern development practices, continuous delivery, and measurable performance improvements.
  • Improve developer experience by optimizing workflows, tools, processes, and engineering productivity.
  • Partner with senior engineering and product leaders to define technical vision, roadmap priorities, and strategic commitments.
  • Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, performance, and reliability standards.
  • Drive effective use of engineering metrics, including DORA metrics, to improve delivery performance and operational maturity.
  • Encourage a culture of experimentation, innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product quality and deliver solutions that address customer needs.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in building and scaling software teams. They should combine technical expertise, business understanding, and strong leadership skills to guide teams in a fast-moving technology environment.

  • Proven experience leading senior engineering teams and delivering high-impact software solutions.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, architecture, and scalable application development.
  • Experience with both backend and frontend technologies.
  • Knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar relational database systems.
  • Strong experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and internal or third-party services.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience leading teams in remote or hybrid environments with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Understanding of DORA metrics and their application in improving engineering performance.
  • Ability to influence technical direction, build trust, and collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Independent, proactive, and results-oriented mindset with the ability to operate with limited supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and commitment to delivering customer-focused solutions.
  • Empathetic and authentic leadership style with curiosity, adaptability, and a passion for team growth.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with data migration, ETL processes, and large-scale data transformation initiatives.
  • Experience working with cloud-native applications and enterprise software platforms.
