We are seeking a full-time Senior Backend Software Engineer, Integrations to help build and scale our third-party integrations and API ecosystem.

Location: The candidate must be based in Nova Scotia, Canada (remote friendly).

Who You Are
  • You are passionate about backend engineering and building reliable, scalable connections between systems
  • You have strong experience designing and implementing third-party API integrations in production environments
  • You understand integration patterns such as webhooks, asynchronous processing, event-driven systems, and real-time data synchronization
  • You are comfortable working with external APIs that may have inconsistent documentation, strict rate limits, unexpected behaviour, or varying levels of reliability
  • You enjoy investigating complex problems across multiple systems and finding practical, durable solutions
  • You value observability, system reliability, and building integrations that work consistently at scale
What Will You Do?

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer focused on integrations, you will help design, build, and improve connections between Event Temple and hospitality platforms, property management systems, email providers, payment processors, and other industry partners.

You can expect to:

  • Design and implement reliable, high-performance integrations with third-party APIs
  • Build integrations with property management systems, payment gateways, hospitality platforms, and other external services
  • Contribute to technical and architectural decisions for our growing integration ecosystem
  • Build and improve systems for monitoring integration health, API performance, failures, and data consistency
  • Develop resilient integration workflows using retries, idempotency, rate limiting, error handling, and graceful degradation
  • Collaborate with integration partners on technical requirements, API specifications, testing, and implementation details
  • Investigate and resolve complex production issues across Event Temple and external systems
  • Improve the scalability and reliability of background processing and synchronization workflows
  • Work with other engineers to establish and share best practices for APIs, integrations, and distributed systems
  • Participate in technical discussions with partner engineering teams and contribute to integration planning

This is a senior individual-contributor role. You will be expected to work independently, take ownership of complex technical problems, and collaborate closely with the broader engineering team.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Significant experience building and maintaining third-party API integrations in production
  • Strong backend development experience using Ruby on Rails or another modern server-side framework
  • The ability and interest to become productive in Ruby on Rails
  • Experience designing reliable systems for high-volume, multi-tenant applications
  • A strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, asynchronous processing, and background jobs
  • Experience handling retries, idempotency, rate limits, timeouts, partial failures, and data consistency
  • Experience with observability practices, including monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting
  • Experience investigating and debugging complex issues across distributed systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers, product teams, and external partners.
Nice-to-Have Experience

The following experience would be considered an asset:

  • Professional experience with Ruby on Rails
  • Experience with Sidekiq, Redis, and background job processing
  • Experience with hospitality industry APIs, including property management systems, booking engines, or payment processors
  • Experience with integration platforms, ETL systems, or data pipelines
  • Experience working directly with external engineering teams, vendors, or integration partners
  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging systems
  • Knowledge of API gateway patterns, OAuth, rate limiting, and integration security
  • Experience supporting partner developers or technical enablement
  • Experience working in a SaaS or multi-tenant product environment
What Type of Person Joins Us?
  • You thrive on solving complex technical problems and building reliable connections between diverse systems
  • You are passionate about creating seamless data flows and strong partner experiences
  • You take pride in building integrations that just work
  • You care about the quality, maintainability, and reliability of the systems you build
  • You are self-motivated, resilient, and quick to adapt when new obstacles arise
  • You are comfortable working through ambiguity and taking ownership of problems from investigation through delivery
  • You are looking for an alternative to the corporate abyss
  • You want to work somewhere your ideas matter and where your contributions have a meaningful impact
  • You value freedom and want to play on a winning team with people who feel the same way
  • You want to help build a future with more events, travel, and shared experiences—not less
  • It is this long-term, bigger picture that makes you feel both inspired and engaged
Benefits
  • Friendly co-workers
  • Work From Home/Remote
  • Health and dental benefits
  • Casual dress code (obv.)
  • Competitive compensation
  • Building a company and being a part of a success story
  • The opportunity to have a meaningful impact on a growing product
