You will contribute to the evolution of an open-source database platform while solving complex challenges in performance, reliability, and scalability.
The position is designed for an experienced engineer who enjoys deep systems work, database architecture, and technical innovation.
You will work on mission-critical infrastructure, optimizing query execution, storage strategies, and distributed system performance.
Collaborating with a fully remote global engineering team, you will have significant ownership and influence over technical decisions.
This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on products used by organizations requiring secure, efficient, and scalable authorization solutions.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, develop, test, and release new database features and enhancements for a distributed database platform.
  • Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability by optimizing query execution, database architecture, and core infrastructure components.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex correctness, stability, and performance issues within distributed systems.
  • Drive optimization initiatives by analyzing system behavior, improving query planning, and implementing advanced database techniques such as materialized views and incremental view maintenance.
  • Develop and refine indexing, partitioning, caching, and other strategies to improve query efficiency and overall database performance.
  • Contribute to both open-source and enterprise product development initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and support teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions.
  • Participate in technical discussions, architectural decisions, and continuous improvement efforts within a remote engineering environment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing software using system-level programming languages such as Go, C/C++, Rust, or Zig.
  • Strong understanding of database internals, including query planning, optimization, indexing, compilers, materialized views, and database architecture.
  • Solid systems engineering background with experience in distributed systems, operating systems, or database technologies.
  • Proven ability to identify performance bottlenecks, analyze complex technical problems, and design effective solutions.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and familiarity with modern development practices, including CI/CD, Docker, Git, and testing methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams across multiple time zones.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and cloud-native database environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with authorization systems, access control models, or security-focused infrastructure is advantageous.
  • Experience with Go programming and advanced database coursework is considered a strong plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range of $155,000 - $210,000 depending on experience.
  • Equity opportunities through stock options at an early-stage technology company.
  • Fully remote work environment with flexible scheduling across different time zones.
  • Comprehensive healthcare and insurance benefits where applicable.
  • Opportunity to work on innovative distributed systems and open-source technology.
  • Supportive engineering culture where ideas and technical contributions have meaningful impact.
  • Team offsites twice per year focused on collaboration, connection, and team building.
  • Opportunity to grow professionally within a rapidly evolving technology sector.
