Job Description

TITLE: Intern - History Education Social Media Intern

LOCATION: History Center - 345 W Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102

COMPENSATION: Typical starting salary $17.02 hourly


HOURS: This is a part-time, temporary position from approximately January 19, 2027 to May 23, 2027. A part-time intern must be available to work 10 hours per week. This position offers a flexible work schedule, coordinated with the intern’s school schedule and operational needs. Preferred working hours are in-person Tuesday or Wednesday between 9-5; virtual working hours are flexible.

SEMINAR EVENTS: Interns are required to participate in three, in-person seminars focused on professional development, learning how cultural organizations operate, and building a network of industry professionals. At the end of the semester, interns complete a final presentation to share their work.

DESCRIPTION: The Teacher Education & Curriculum Development (TED) Team coordinates teacher professional development and develops curriculum materials to support educators’ instruction of history and social studies. TED also oversees social media promotion for MNHS educational programming around the state, as well as promoting resources, opportunities, and other items of interest to K-12 teachers. This intern will coordinate social media and communication efforts for the TED team plus all MNHS K-12 programs and services (except MN History Day). The major focus is on research, implementing a strategy for Instagram and Facebook, planning a calendar of posts, updating social media on a regular basis, and creating monthly newsletters. Other projects may include future planning and strategy for K-12 Programs and Services social media, analytics and data analysis, creation of images and videos in collaboration with Strategic Communications, and other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Work with Teacher Education staff to research, design, develop, and implement social media plan; 2) Develop content for Instagram and Facebook (@HistoryEdMNHS); 3) Research online tools, social media strategies, and make recommendations for future initiatives; 4) Attend social media meetings with supervisor and strategic communications as appropriate; 5) Develop and design monthly teacher email newsletters; 6) Increasing Instagram and Facebook engagement; 7) Conducting research to make recommendations for growing engagement with the teacher audience; 8) Suggest, develop, and oversee other projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, or have graduated within the past 12 months at the time of application.

  • Ideal candidates might be currently pursuing, or a graduate with a degree in the following areas: Education, History, Media Studies, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.

  • Undergraduate junior or senior able to work well independently and in a team setting.

  • Experience planning, developing, and implementing projects, conducting research, video creation and building good working relationships with a diverse pool of people is required.

  • Student must be self-motivated, comfortable using social-media technologies, possess excellent written communication skills, and be able to think creatively.

  • Experience with Facebook, Instagram, and/or other social media outlets required.

  • Experience with education and/or history is preferred.

  • Experience with engaging students in a variety of contexts is a plus.
