Position Overview:
The Non-Sterile Compounding Cleaning Associate is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and overall condition of the non-sterile compounding laboratory and designated support areas. The associate performs routine and scheduled cleaning activities, including cleaning laboratory surfaces, floors, equipment, utensils, glassware, and other designated items used in compounding operations.
This position supports contamination and cross-contamination prevention and helps maintain an appropriate environment for non-sterile pharmaceutical compounding. The associate is responsible for following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), cleaning schedules, safety requirements, and applicable pharmacy standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitization of the non-sterile compounding laboratory and designated support areas according to established SOPs and cleaning schedules.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and other scheduled cleaning activities as required.
- Perform scheduled deep cleaning of the non-sterile compounding laboratory.
- Clean floors, walls, doors, work surfaces, shelving, carts, sinks, and other designated laboratory surfaces.
- Wash, rinse, sanitize, dry, and appropriately store reusable compounding utensils, glassware, containers, and equipment according to established procedures.
- Maintain laboratory dishwashing and cleaning areas in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition.
- Clean designated compounding equipment and external equipment surfaces according to established procedures.
- Use approved cleaning agents, detergents, sanitizers, and other cleaning materials according to established procedures, including required dilution and contact times when applicable.
- Follow established cleaning techniques and procedures designed to minimize contamination and cross-contamination.
- Maintain cleaning tools and supplies in designated locations and ensure cleaning materials are properly stored and labeled.
- Maintain adequate inventory of cleaning supplies and notify the appropriate supervisor when supplies require replenishment.
- Collect, segregate, and dispose of laboratory waste according to established procedures.
- Complete cleaning logs and other required documentation accurately and at the time the activity is performed.
- Immediately report spills, residues, damaged surfaces, pest activity, water intrusion, equipment issues, or other conditions that could affect the cleanliness or suitability of the compounding environment.
- Follow applicable procedures for the cleanup of spills involving pharmaceutical ingredients or compounded preparations.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with laboratory entry, safety, hygiene, and personnel requirements.
- Follow applicable Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical-handling requirements, and workplace safety procedures.
- Coordinate cleaning activities with compounding personnel to minimize disruption to production activities.
- Support laboratory cleaning activities following maintenance, repairs, spills, or other events requiring additional cleaning.
- Report missed cleaning activities, cleaning deficiencies, or other deviations promptly to the supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Complete required training and competency assessments before independently performing assigned duties.
- Perform other cleaning, sanitation, organization, and laboratory-support duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow written cleaning procedures, SOPs, safety instructions, and established cleaning schedules.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete cleaning records.
- Ability to consistently follow contamination and cross-contamination prevention practices.
- Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment.
- Ability to identify and promptly report abnormal or potentially unsafe conditions.
- Ability to manage multiple cleaning responsibilities in a fast-paced pharmacy environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after completion of required training.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to complete assigned cleaning activities within established timeframes.
- English proficiency preferred, including the ability to read and understand SOPs, cleaning instructions, safety information, chemical labels, SDSs, and required documentation.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work in a controlled environment while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Capability to lift and move supplies and equipment as needed.
- Comfortable working in controlled cleanroom environments with PPE.
