VP of R&D

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP of R&D based in the United States.

This executive leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the future of innovative healthcare technology solutions through product strategy, engineering excellence, and organizational leadership.
The VP of R&D will oversee critical technology functions, including product management, software development, quality assurance, DevOps, infrastructure, and technical operations.
You will define the technical vision, guide product evolution, and drive initiatives that improve business performance and customer outcomes.
The role combines strategic planning, operational execution, and people leadership in a collaborative remote environment.
You will lead multidisciplinary teams, foster innovation, and create scalable processes that support long-term growth.

Accountabilities:

The VP of R&D will provide strategic and operational leadership across research and development functions, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products, strong technical direction, and effective team performance.

  • Define and execute the overall product and technical vision, aligning roadmaps with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Lead product management, software development, quality assurance, documentation, DevOps, hosting, and infrastructure teams.
  • Drive best practices across R&D processes, including product delivery, releases, feedback cycles, communication, and operational improvements.
  • Own product roadmap strategy and ensure alignment between technical teams, business stakeholders, and customers.
  • Develop innovative solutions and guide teams in delivering impactful healthcare technology products.
  • Support product planning, prioritization, resource allocation, and execution across development initiatives.
  • Manage financial planning for the R&D organization, including department forecasting, budgeting, and resource optimization.
  • Identify opportunities to evolve products, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen business outcomes.
  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams through coaching, feedback, collaboration, and career development.
  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary organization of approximately 50 team members through effective communication and strategic direction.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to ensure alignment between technology, product, marketing, and customer objectives.
  • Promote the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools and automation solutions, to improve workflows and efficiency.
  • Represent the R&D organization in strategic discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a senior technology leader with experience managing product and engineering organizations, combining technical expertise with strong business and people leadership capabilities.

  • 5+ years of management experience leading technology, product, or engineering teams.
  • Proven experience managing product development teams and driving technology strategy.
  • Strong understanding of software development processes, product delivery, and technical operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and execute product roadmaps aligned with business goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly present strategic plans and decisions to technical teams, executives, and stakeholders.
  • Experience leading teams in a healthcare IT or other regulated technology environment is highly preferred.
  • Experience with cloud migration initiatives, including transitions from on-premise environments to cloud-based platforms.
  • Knowledge of major cloud platforms such as OCI, AWS, Azure, or similar technologies.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to manage budgets, prioritize investments, and drive operational improvements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Comfortable leveraging AI-powered technologies, automation tools, and modern productivity solutions while maintaining strong security and compliance standards.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed, including occasional travel to client locations and team events.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range of approximately $130,000 - $165,000 USD.
