Job Description

Director, Product Design

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Product Design based in the United States.

As Director, Product Design, you will shape the design strategy and user experience for critical product areas focused on customer acquisition, lead management, and communication.
You will lead a team of product designers while partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and executive stakeholders.
A major focus of the role is embedding AI into modern design practices, from research and analysis through prototyping and product experiences.
You will help define how AI-powered and agentic capabilities become intuitive, cohesive parts of the customer experience.
The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on craft, giving you the opportunity to prototype, experiment, and establish a high bar for design quality.
You will influence design systems, processes, team development, and product direction across a rapidly growing organization.
This is an opportunity to help evolve both the products customers use and the way a modern design organization works.

Accountabilities
  • Define and drive design strategy for key product domains, ensuring experiences are cohesive, intuitive, scalable, and aligned with business and customer goals.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Business Operations, and executive leaders to establish product priorities, roadmaps, and strategic direction.
  • Lead and mentor product design teams, developing design leaders and helping designers strengthen their craft, product thinking, and fluency with AI-enabled tools.
  • Champion AI-assisted design and prototyping practices, using emerging tools to increase design velocity, explore ideas rapidly, and improve the quality of product decisions.
  • Personally prototype and explore concepts, particularly through AI-assisted workflows, while setting a strong standard for design craft and execution.
  • Ensure effective design practices from early discovery and concept development through launch, iteration, and optimization.
  • Use customer research, product data, analytics, and AI-assisted research synthesis to establish informed points of view and guide product direction.
  • Drive cohesive experiences across product areas, including consistent interaction patterns and approaches for AI-powered and agentic functionality.
  • Lead strategic initiatives that improve design processes, workflows, collaboration, and execution standards across the broader organization.
  • Communicate design rationale, trade-offs, opportunities, and recommendations effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Help shape how the design organization evolves as AI changes product development, team structures, workflows, and the role of designers.
Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience successfully designing and shipping digital products and features end-to-end.
  • 5+ years of direct experience managing and leading product design teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong expertise in user experience, interaction design, and information architecture across responsive web and mobile platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency with modern design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, combined with practical fluency in AI-native tools such as Figma AI, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated success using AI tools and automation to improve design team efficiency, output quality, research, prototyping, or product development.
  • Experience working in Agile product development environments and collaborating through tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience designing or overseeing AI-powered experiences, including conversational interfaces, agentic workflows, personalization, or generative content, is highly valued.
  • Strong product and business judgment, with the ability to connect design decisions to measurable customer and business outcomes.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with confidence communicating complex design decisions and AI-related trade-offs to executive and C-suite audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across Product, Engineering, Research, and other business functions.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong ownership, resilience, and comfort operating in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments.
  • Ability to move fluidly across traditional design disciplines, including research, UX, content, prototyping, and AI-assisted development.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating either broad cross-functional design expertise or exceptional depth in a specialized area.
  • Genuine curiosity about how AI is reshaping product design and a willingness to continuously learn, unlearn, and adapt working practices.
Benefits
  • Base salary of $175,000–$210,000, plus a 10% annual bonus and eligibility for equity.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage, including medical, dental, vision, and disability benefits.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Flexible, take-it-as-needed paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Monthly technology reimbursement.
  • Employee assistance program and additional employee support resources.
  • Remote-friendly work environment with a strong focus on flexibility and work-life balance.
  • Opportunity to work in a fast-growing environment where innovation, experimentation, and big ideas are encouraged.
  • Meaningful opportunity to influence AI adoption, product strategy, design standards, and organizational growth.
  • Inclusive workplace committed to equal opportunity and supporting diverse perspectives and experiences.
