The vCISO & Privacy Advisory Consultant will lead client engagements focused on cybersecurity strategy, privacy compliance, and security maturity improvements. This role requires providing expert guidance, developing practical recommendations, and helping organizations implement effective governance and risk management practices.
- Develop and support privacy compliance programs aligned with frameworks such as CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, SOC 2 Privacy, and ISO 27701.
- Conduct privacy gap assessments, evaluate data flows, identify compliance risks, and recommend remediation strategies.
- Provide virtual CISO advisory services, including cybersecurity roadmaps, risk mitigation strategies, security governance guidance, and incident response planning.
- Advise clients on security controls, data protection architecture, and compliance requirements across cloud, network, and application environments.
- Assist with the creation and refinement of security policies, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Support client engagement planning through discovery discussions, project scoping, and subject matter expertise.
- Maintain strong knowledge of evolving cybersecurity regulations, frameworks, and industry best practices.
- Deliver clear recommendations and communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and executive audiences.
- Contribute to internal methodologies, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings extensive cybersecurity consulting experience with a strong focus on privacy regulations, compliance frameworks, and executive-level advisory. You should have the ability to translate technical risks into strategic recommendations and successfully manage client relationships.
- 5+ years of IT experience, including 3+ years specifically in vCISO advisory or cybersecurity consulting roles with a strong privacy focus.
- Required certification: CISSP, CISM, or CISA.
- Preferred certifications include IAPP credentials such as CIPP/US or CIPM, ISO 27701 Lead Auditor, QSA, or other relevant audit certifications.
- Strong understanding of privacy regulations including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and related data protection requirements.
- Deep knowledge of security controls, risk management principles, and privacy-by-design practices.
- Experience advising organizations on compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS, CMMC, FedRAMP, NIST, HITRUST, and SOC 2.
- Proven ability to lead advisory engagements, manage client expectations, and deliver high-quality consulting outcomes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage technical teams and executive stakeholders.
- Experience using project management or PSA tools such as Monday.com, Asana, Mavenlink, or similar platforms is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and maintain ownership in a remote consulting environment.
- Competitive compensation of $70 - $90/hour.
