Preschool Substitute Teacher, Non-Exempt, $70 - $140/day

Founded in 1961, Sandy Spring Friends School is a progressive, coed, academically-rigorous day and boarding school serving students from age three through 12th grade. The campus is located on 140 acres in the historic Sandy Spring area of Montgomery County, Maryland, and the School is approved by the Maryland State Board of Education and accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools.

Summary: Sandy Spring Friends School is looking for qualified preschool substitute teachers. SSFS seeks to nurture the whole child, and a successful substitute teacher should enjoy and possess the ability to work with preschool children, ages 3 and 4. Substitutes should value the importance of diversity and can share, teach, and appreciate wide perspectives. Substitute Teachers are hired on a per diem basis as needed. We are looking for flexible, reliable substitutes who can help provide classroom coverage as needed throughout the school day. Available shifts include:

• Morning/Day Shift: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm

• Afternoon/Closing Shift: 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a closely related field; a master’s degree is desirable. Prior teaching experience in an Independent or Private Upper or High School is preferred. They will have strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills and experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction. Core subjects, or specialty area experience are ideal. Familiarity with Quaker education would be advantageous.

Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom and office setting.
