Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC), Boston, MA — the largest community college in Massachusetts, serving a diverse urban student population across multiple campuses.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Comptroller at Bunker Hill Community College supports the Comptroller in managing the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations and the reconciling of various accounts and projects. This role ensures accurate financial records and compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal controls. The Assistant Comptroller supervises accounting staff and serves as a key contributor to audit preparation and process improvement initiatives.The Assistant Comptroller reports to the Comptroller within the Division of Administration and Finance.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Review payroll postings and reconcile any discrepancies and irregularities as needed.
- Maintain fixed asset records, including tracking new asset capitalization, depreciation, review for GASB87 and GASB96 compliance and tracking the College’s Plant Fund project activities.
- Assist with the accounting for the BHCC Foundation, including the review of transactions, preparation of periodic reports and financial statements.
- Review and reconciliation of the College’s P-card accounts and transactions.
- Prepare audit documentation and other periodic reports as needed,
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, federal grant requirements, and Massachusetts state policies.
- Any other duty assigned by the Comptroller.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- At least five years relevant accounting experience with three years of supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, preferably GASB and public-sector fund accounting.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment.
Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent Professional Accounting qualification.
- Experience in public higher education, especially within Massachusetts community colleges.
- Auditing experience, particularly in direct liaison with auditors.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $115,000 to $125,000. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Non-Unit Professional. Full State Benefited position.
