About This Position

Description:

To support the Construction Manager and Project Managers in delivering homes that meet Garman’s quality, schedule, and brand standards. The Project Manager Assistant performs construction, quality assurance, and operational support duties to ensure workmanship meets expectations and contributes to a positive homeowner experience.

This is a safety-sensitive position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the construction of assigned homes and communities by performing carpentry, framing, finishing, excavation, backfilling, and general construction tasks as directed.
  • Read and follow blueprints, specifications, and build schedules to ensure accurate execution of assigned tasks.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install building materials using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, equipment, and vehicles in accordance with company and manufacturer guidelines; report damage or repair needs promptly.
  • Assist Project Managers in maintaining quality standards through jobsite inspections, QA checks, punch list completion, and issuing work orders at assigned build stages.
  • Perform FTQ (First Time Quality) workdays to help deliver a defect-free home at settlement.
  • Support Customer Care with warranty work as needed.
  • Maintain accurate time reporting and complete assigned documentation in a timely manner.
  • Lead by example on jobsites, supporting Trade Partners and fellow Team Members in delivering quality work.
  • Promote Garman’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values in all interactions.

Accountability

  • Produce workmanship that consistently meets Garman quality standards.
  • Support Project Managers in maintaining build schedule adherence.
  • Utilize materials efficiently and economically as directed.
  • Maintain safe, secure, and professional jobsites.

Expectations

  • Demonstrate strong work habits, including reliability, ownership, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Dedicate approximately 30% of your time to independently managing project responsibilities typically performed by a Project Manager, ensuring you are proactively leading tasks and making decisions rather than solely supporting in an assistant capacity.
  • Maintain professionalism and integrity in all interactions with Team Members, Trade Partners, and Customers.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with Project Managers and Trade Partners.
  • Follow all company safety standards, personnel policies, and jobsite procedures.

Authority

  • Direct job-specific carpenter crews as assigned.
  • Issue work orders within designated QA checkpoints as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Make field-level task decisions within assigned scope and escalate concerns appropriately.

Relationships (Internal/External)

  • Homeowners: Provide courteous, professional interactions and support positive build and warranty experiences.
  • Trade Partners: Promote accountability, quality workmanship, and professional collaboration.
  • Garman Team Members: Support Construction Managers and Project Managers through proactive communication and dependable execution.
  • Customer Care Team: Partner on warranty and post-settlement service needs.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 1–3 years of residential construction or carpentry experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic construction methods, materials, tools, and jobsite safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Proficiency with common construction hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100+ pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, lift overhead, work at heights (including ladders and roofs), and navigate rough terrain.
  • Valid PA driver’s license with acceptable driving record and reliable transportation.
