About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Plant Operations Manager reports to the Vice President of Ancillary and Support Services. They are responsible for the daily execution, documentation, and operational readiness of all facility systems in compliance with hospital standards and accreditation requirements.
This role ensures the hospital environment remains safe, functional, and survey-ready at all times, with a strong emphasis on continuous compliance with CIHQ Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety standards.
The Plant Operations Manager works in coordination with a designated Subject Matter Expert (SME) who provides technical and regulatory guidance. The Plant Operations Manager is accountable for implementation, documentation, and sustained compliance.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
License: Hold stationary steam engineer boiler license.
EPA Cert, Universal 608 preferred.
CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facility Manager) certificate preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 - 7 years in hospital plant operations or facilities management.
- 2 – 3 years’ supervisory experience.
- Healthcare experience strongly preferred.
- Working Knowledge of Physical Environment (per Joint Commission Standards; formerly Environment of Care)
- Working Knowledge of NFPA 2012 Edition and Life Safety Code 2012 Edition.
Other Skills Required:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to speak concisely to staff, vendors, coworkers, patients, physicians and other care team members.
- Demonstrates an attitude of co-operation and professionalism.
- Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
- Strong analytical thinking and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Able to work in, manage and deal with varying stressful situations.
