About This Position
The Evergreen School, an independent school serving highly capable students in preschool through 8th grade, is currently accepting applications for Substitute Teachers.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Evergreen School is seeking flexible, enthusiastic, and capable substitute teachers and teaching assistants to join our substitute roster. Substitutes support the school community by maintaining continuity of learning in the absence of regular teachers, providing a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for students across preschool through 8th grade.
We are also seeking substitute specialists in Chinese, Spanish, French, PE, music, and art. Substitutes must be able to respond to short-notice requests, often the night before or the morning of the assignment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver planned lessons and activities as directed by the classroom teacher or instructional staff.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment.
- Supervise students in the classroom, on the playground, and during other school activities.
- Follow school routines, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate with divisional staff and report any significant issues or incidents.
- Adapt instruction as needed to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Support school events or activities as requested by the administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree or teaching certification preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with independent school environments and grade-level content is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow lesson plans and maintain consistency with the regular classroom environment.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain student engagement.
- Excellent communication skills with students, staff, and families.
- Adaptable, reliable, and able to respond quickly to changing assignments.
- Comfortable supervising children in indoor and outdoor settings.

Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with job duties
- Ability to stand, sit, and move comfortably throughout classrooms and hallways for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs, navigate uneven surfaces, and escort students between locations within and outside school buildings.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
- Assignments may be called on short notice, requiring readiness and flexibility.
Position Details:
This is an hourly, non-benefits eligible, as needed position. This position is part-time, as needed for substitute assignments with variable daily schedules. Assignments could be available anytime Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm. The salary for this position is $25.00 per hour with monthly payment.
