Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Director, Data Platform & Engineering in Canada.
This senior leadership role sits at the core of a large-scale data ecosystem, responsible for shaping the infrastructure and engineering systems that power enterprise-wide decision-making. You will lead and scale two critical engineering pillars—data platform and data engineering—supporting functions such as marketing, finance, product, sales, HR, and customer success. The role blends strategic vision with hands-on organizational leadership, driving modernization across cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and analytics enablement. You will partner closely with senior engineering leadership to define multi-quarter roadmaps, align technical execution with business priorities, and ensure platform reliability, security, and scalability. Acting through experienced directors, you will focus on vision-setting, prioritization, and enabling high-performing teams. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape how data is built, governed, and consumed across a fast-scaling enterprise environment.
In this role, you will define and execute the strategic direction of enterprise data platform and engineering organizations, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing systems that support company-wide analytics and operations. You will:
- Lead and develop multiple engineering teams through directors, setting vision, priorities, and performance standards across data platform and data engineering functions
- Own the multi-quarter roadmap for enterprise data infrastructure, balancing modernization, stability, security, and enablement initiatives
- Drive large-scale platform evolution across Snowflake, AWS, GCP, Airflow, dbt, and ingestion frameworks, including cloud migration and system consolidation
- Oversee data architecture strategy, including data lake design, governance frameworks, observability systems, and cost optimization efforts
- Ensure reliability and scalability of enterprise data pipelines powering analytics, reporting, and operational workflows across the business
- Build a strong engineering culture grounded in ownership, accountability, and operational excellence, including talent development and organizational design
- Partner with business and technical leaders to translate enterprise needs into scalable data capabilities and measurable outcomes
- Lead vendor strategy, including build vs buy decisions, contract negotiations, and platform cost optimization
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in data platform leadership, enterprise-scale engineering, and cross-functional alignment. You will need:
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, or analytics engineering roles, including 4+ years in senior leadership (Director level or above)
- Proven experience leading and scaling large engineering organizations (15+ people), including leadership through other managers or directors
- Strong understanding of modern data stack technologies such as Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, AWS, and GCP, with the ability to guide architecture decisions
- Experience delivering platform modernization initiatives such as cloud migration, infrastructure redesign, or tool consolidation
- Deep knowledge of data pipelines, ingestion frameworks, data modeling, and analytics enablement practices at enterprise scale
- Demonstrated success in cross-functional partnership with business stakeholders, translating ambiguous needs into structured technical solutions
- Strong vendor management experience, including SaaS evaluation, contract negotiation, and cost optimization strategies
- Excellent communication and executive presence, with the ability to present strategy, trade-offs, and outcomes clearly
- Experience operating in fast-paced, high-growth, or transformation environments requiring adaptability and strategic prioritization
- Competitive base salary with additional bonus, equity, and performance-based compensation opportunities
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for employees and families
- Flexible remote work arrangements supporting work-life balance
- Generous PTO and paid holidays
- Equity programs and long-term incentive opportunities
- Employee wellness initiatives focused on physical, mental, and lifestyle well-being
- Exposure to large-scale, high-impact engineering challenges in a modern data environment
- Opportunities for executive-level influence and strategic ownership across enterprise systems
