Job Description

Position Description: About BioGenerator
BioGenerator Ventures is St. Louis’s leading early-stage life science venture development organization. We build and fund startup companies at the intersection of biology, technology, and agriculture — advancing human health, agricultural innovation, food security, and environmental sustainability.

Position Summary
BioGenerator seeks an Agtech Commercialization Specialist to join our team and help grow our agtech and food tech portfolio. This is a unique role for a mid-to-late career professional who has spent time in the ag and/or food industry, understands how companies are built, and is energized by the early-stage startup world.

The ideal candidate should know what it takes to start and run a business, have a genuine curiosity about entrepreneurship, and bring a network that can help surface and develop new investment opportunities. A strong connection to the St. Louis ecosystem is ideal.

This role sits at the intersection of two things: finding great companies (or company ideas!) and helping those companies get a successful start. You will work closely with our investment team and be a key part of how we grow our deal flow and portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
Deal Flow & Network Development
  • Actively source new investment opportunities through your professional network, industry relationships, and presence in the ag and food community, especially in St. Louis.
  • Build and maintain relationships with researchers, founders, ecosystem players, and industry contacts that can generate early-stage deal flow.
  • Represent the firm at relevant industry events, conferences, and community gatherings.
Company Creation & Early-Stage Support

  • Help identify and evaluate early-stage concepts and founding teams.
  • Support entrepreneurs through the earliest stages of company formation including business planning, team building, go-to-market strategy, and fundraising preparation.
  • Serve in an advisory or interim leadership capacity for portfolio companies when appropriate.
  • Work alongside our investment team on diligence and investment decisions.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in agtech, food tech, agricultural sciences, or a related industry.
  • Meaningful exposure to startups, entrepreneurship, or venture. This could be as a founder, operator at an early-stage company, angel investor, or advisor.
  • Strong working knowledge of how businesses are built and what early-stage companies need to succeed. Hands-on experience in business development and/or commercial strategy is preferred.
  • An active, genuine network in the ag and food industry; strong relationships within the St. Louis region are a plus.
  • Comfortable operating within early-stage companies in an unstructured environment.
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial, and motivated by building something, not just advising.

Engagement Structure
Full-time, includes BioSTL benefits. Depending on experience level, a part-time engagement structure may be possible. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and engagement structure. On-site role with flexible remote work arrangements available a couple days per week, as needed.
