Senior Manager, Accounting Advisory - Construction Clients

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, Accounting Advisory - Construction Clients based in the United States.

The Senior Manager will serve as a CFO-level strategic advisor to construction clients, helping them strengthen financial performance and achieve sustainable growth.
You will lead complex advisory engagements focused on profitability, cash flow, liquidity, forecasting, and operational improvement.
The role combines deep construction accounting expertise with relationship management, business consulting, and team leadership.
You will work closely with owners, executives, project leaders, and external stakeholders to translate financial data into actionable business strategies.
The position also offers an opportunity to modernize accounting delivery through technology, standardized processes, and innovative best practices.
You will oversee multiple client teams while mentoring professionals and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities
  • Lead CFO-level client advisory engagements, providing strategic financial guidance and operational recommendations tailored to construction organizations.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with business owners, executives, project leaders, and other senior client stakeholders by understanding their objectives, challenges, and growth priorities.
  • Analyze financial performance, KPIs, profitability, cash flow, and liquidity, translating complex financial information into clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Advise clients on construction-specific financial matters, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, project profitability, cash flow forecasting, and project-based financial management.
  • Develop client budgets and forecasts and provide ongoing consultative guidance on financial planning, growth, and operational strategy.
  • Oversee multiple client teams and engagements, ensuring accounting deliverables are accurate, timely, high quality, and aligned with client expectations.
  • Drive change management and process improvement initiatives by introducing technology, standardized workflows, and industry best practices to enhance service delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal specialists across areas such as revenue cycle, payroll, and cost reporting to develop integrated solutions for clients.
  • Partner with external stakeholders, including banks, sureties, auditors, and insurance providers, to address client financial and operational needs.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting professionals, establishing clear expectations and fostering accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
  • Promote collaboration across geographically distributed teams and help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, client service, and business outcomes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of relevant public accounting or industry accounting experience, ideally with significant exposure to construction clients.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering accounting and advisory services to construction organizations, including job costing, WIP reporting, project accounting, and project-based financial management.
  • Strong understanding of cash flow forecasting, project profitability, liquidity management, and financial planning within project-driven businesses.
  • Proven ability to operate at a CFO-advisory level and translate financial analysis into strategic recommendations for executives and business owners.
  • Experience leading teams through organizational change, technology adoption, process improvement, and evolving service-delivery models.
  • Strong project management, communication, stakeholder-management, and relationship-building skills, with a clear client-first mindset.
  • Experience managing remote teams and fostering effective collaboration across multiple locations.
  • Experience working with external stakeholders such as banking partners, sureties, auditors, and insurance providers.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate findings clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Familiarity with construction and accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Procore, Sage Intacct Construction, or Foundation is preferred, along with the ability to quickly adopt new technologies.
  • Strong leadership skills and a demonstrated commitment to mentoring and developing accounting professionals.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% as required.

  • Salary: Estimated base salary range of $142,000–$195,000 USD, with actual offers determined by factors including location, experience, education, certifications, skills, business needs, and applicable employment requirements.
