- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain high-performance backend services supporting real-time voice communications with a focus on scalability, reliability, and low latency.
- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, technical design, sprint planning, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Build robust RESTful APIs and event-driven services while continuously improving system architecture and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate customer needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize distributed production systems while participating in on-call rotations and incident response activities.
- Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to architectural discussions, design reviews, and engineering best practices.
- Leverage AI-powered development tools responsibly to improve productivity while ensuring code quality, security, maintainability, and performance.
- Contribute innovative ideas that improve platform resilience, customer experience, and overall engineering excellence.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2–3+ years of professional experience developing large-scale distributed backend applications using Java or other JVM technologies.
- Strong understanding of RESTful API development, event-driven architectures, and messaging technologies such as Kafka or Amazon SQS.
- Experience working with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or OpenStack.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment processes, and modern software delivery practices.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, observability, and incident management tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
- Strong computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, and software architecture.
- Experience using AI coding assistants (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar) with the ability to evaluate AI-generated code for quality, correctness, and security.
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote engineering environment.
- Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, caching technologies, SIP, STIR/SHAKEN protocols, or highly scalable production systems is considered an asset.
- Remote-first position available across eligible U.S. locations.
- Competitive salary based on experience and geographic location.
- Salary ranges include:
- $138,700–$173,400 (select U.S. states)
- $146,800–$183,600 (select higher-cost markets)
- Up to $203,900 in the San Francisco Bay Area.
