Job Description

Director, Product Design

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Product Design based in Canada.

This is a senior design leadership opportunity focused on shaping experiences that help millions of people confidently manage and improve their homes. You will lead product design across demand partnerships and demand generation, spanning both partner-facing and homeowner-facing experiences. The role combines product vision, organizational leadership, design craft, and growth strategy across multiple teams. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, Business Development, and Marketing leaders to influence strategy and deliver measurable business outcomes. You’ll build and develop a high-performing design organization while establishing scalable processes and operating models. Your work will directly influence acquisition, conversion, activation, retention, and the overall quality of the customer experience. This is an environment where strong collaboration, experimentation, user insight, and exceptional design standards are central to how products are built.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and scale Product Design across the Demand Partnerships and Demand Gen portfolio, overseeing multiple teams and designers while setting a clear direction for design strategy and execution.
  • Define and communicate a compelling product and experience vision that establishes a clear north star for teams and guides strategic product decisions.
  • Shape product and business strategy in partnership with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, Business Development, and Marketing leaders.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop senior designers and design managers, helping team members strengthen their craft, expand their influence, and achieve meaningful career growth.
  • Establish a consistently high bar for visual design, interaction design, systems thinking, and overall user experience quality across multiple products and teams.
  • Ensure teams deliver thoughtful, high-quality, user-centered experiences that balance customer needs with measurable business objectives.
  • Build scalable design processes, operating models, and organizational structures that increase the impact and effectiveness of the design function.
  • Champion research- and data-informed decision-making, integrating user insights, experimentation, and quantitative signals into product development.
  • Lead design strategy for acquisition, conversion, activation, retention, and other growth-oriented experiences, identifying opportunities to improve the customer journey.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and influence senior and executive stakeholders to create alignment around product and design priorities.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, high-performing culture where designers are empowered to do their best work and continuously raise the quality bar.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience managing product designers, including experience leading senior individual contributors and/or design managers.
  • Proven track record of defining and driving product vision and strategy within complex, cross-functional technology environments.
  • Strong craft expertise spanning visual design, interaction design, systems thinking, and end-to-end product experiences, with the ability to elevate quality through teams rather than relying on individual contribution.
  • Demonstrated experience building, scaling, and leading high-performing Product Design organizations and inclusive team cultures.
  • Exceptional cross-functional leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to partner effectively with senior and executive stakeholders.
  • Deep commitment to user-centered design and demonstrated ability to integrate qualitative research, quantitative data, experimentation, and customer insights into product decisions.
  • Experience leading product design for growth, demand generation, acquisition, or similar customer-facing experiences, with measurable impact on acquisition, conversion, activation, retention, or engagement.
  • Strong strategic thinking combined with excellent execution, organizational judgment, and the ability to translate broad business objectives into clear design priorities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design strategy, influence stakeholders, and create alignment across diverse teams.
  • A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with a passion for mentoring talent, developing teams, and creating an environment where people can thrive.
Benefits
  • Expected total cash compensation of CA$226,100–CA$292,600 for candidates based in Ontario or British Columbia.
  • Compensation may vary based on calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency.
  • Remote work opportunity within Canada, with the role available to candidates in Ontario and British Columbia.
  • Opportunity to lead design across a high-impact product serving millions of homeowners and a large community of local service professionals.
  • Senior-level influence over product vision, design strategy, organizational development, and growth initiatives.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Product, Engineering, Research, Data, Business Development, and Marketing.
  • Inclusive and diverse workplace committed to equal opportunity and supporting employees from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Reasonable accommodations available throughout the application process for candidates with disabilities.
  • Opportunity to work on complex, high-scale customer experiences where design has a direct impact on business and user outcomes.
