LaPlaya Beach and Golf Resort and the Inn on Fifth is seeking a dynamic and strategic Area Director of Catering and Conference Services to lead our catering and conference services teams. This individual will drive revenue growth, elevate guest experiences, and strengthen our market presence by overseeing all sales, catering and event operations. The ideal candidate is an inspiring leader with a proven track record in hospitality sales and passion for service excellence, and strong relationships within the meetings, events, and leisure markets.

  • Account solicitation, development of group accounts and sales/catering production, training, and coaching of all catering sales team
  • Assist banquet teams to operate in for-profit
  • Responsible for direct sales activities and even management
  • Coordinate and oversee all hotel special events
  • Draft policies, forecast resort activity and set objectives
  • Provide facility tours and site inspections for clients and potential clients, in conjunction with sales managers
  • Interact with sales to ensure that clients’ plans are implemented
  • Ensure that accounting receive accurate information on services used
  • Plan menus with Culinary and Food & Beverage for groups when needed and design BEOs detailing client needs for implementation by operational departments
  • Maintain booking activity in accordance with established goals
  • Monitor sales, catering, and meeting room rental activity and productivity of all catering personnel on an ongoing basis
  • Develop and implement yearly and monthly catering sales and marketing strategy plans
  • Determine meeting/food & beverage requirements, including audio visual needs and schedule accordingly
  • Maintain a calendar of upcoming groups and events and important deadlines to share with the entire hotel team
  • Ensure completion of all forms within the department (call, lost business, weekly recaps, contracts, proposals, banquet event orders, etc.)
  • Develop the departmental budget for Catering services
  • Develop and implement yearly and monthly catering sales and marketing strategy plans
  • Manage budgets and control costs in relation to revenue ensuring sales, catering and marketing expense will be in line with budgeted percentage
  • Interview, hire and train new Catering team
  • Anticipate client and guest needs and ensure satisfaction
  • Review and submit payroll for Catering team
  • Review event bills for accuracy, and approve payments
  • Conduct post-event evaluations in order to determine how future events could be improved

Education & Experience:

  • 5-10 years' experience in Catering Management
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a 4-year institution in Events Management/related field preferred
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work long hours as needed
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to squat and bend

Mental Demands:

  • Read, write and speak English fluently
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other colleagues
  • Impeccable work ethic and excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and follow directives from leadership
