Schedule: Monday – Friday 9 am – 3pm /25 hours per week
Reports to: Pastor
SUMMARY
The liturgy coordinator’s primary responsibility is the smooth flow of the liturgical ministry of the parish. The Coordinator works with the parish Liturgy Committee to determine policies relating to the liturgical celebrations of the parish, and to plan the seasonal liturgical celebrations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit and schedule all liturgical ministers, including the readers, commentators, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, ushers, sacristans, flower/plant care volunteers, church and sacristy care (general cleaning on exterior of baptism font and sacristy, maintain holy water vessels), linen laundry, baptism gowns, altar seamstress.
- Provide training for all new ministers and ongoing training for existing ministers.
- Coordinate the cleaning of liturgical vestments
- Attend all Liturgy Committee meetings to determine parish liturgical policy and to assist in the liturgy planning process and seasonal church environment.
- Schedule/prepare mass intention lists for altar and presider
- Prepare weekly preparation Intercessions and announcements
- Attend weekend masses, holy day masses and Christmas and Easter masses to make sure everything runs smoothly.
- Coordinate rites and liturgical services in conjunction with the RCIA team.
- Prepare liturgies for special liturgical events
- Coordinate mass and meet with priest and families to help plan the liturgy for baptisms, funerals/bereavements, weddings and quinceaneras and provide vital information and answer any questions.
- Maintains and submits orders for all liturgical supplies (hosts, wine, candles) and equipment
- Prepare all required documents for marriage and send to pastoral secretary for review
- Coordinate and conduct wedding and quinceanera rehearsals, as needed
- Set up altar for weddings and quinceaneras/baptism and assist wedding/quinceanera parties with any last minute details
- Clear the altar after weddings/quinceaneras
- Coordinate Penance Services during Advent and Lenten seasons as well as Healing Mass by contacting and scheduling priests
- Contact guest priests for mass and for reconciliation, as needed
- If marriage is in another country (Mexico), prepare letter and ensure payment of $80 is made, via money order, to Archdiocese of San Antonio and $50 to St Monica to process the documents
- Assist pastor, as needed to answer phone calls for anointing of the sick, house blessings, etc and to translate for incoming parishioners; pick up and sort mail
- Prepare liturgies for special liturgical events
- Maintain Sacramental records
- Participate as verifier when monies collected by secretary is being counted for special intentions, masses, Easter Lily and poinsettia sales, funerals, baptisms, weddings, flower donations, renovation donations. If needed, goes to bank to make deposit(s).
- Prepare the list of the deceased for All Soul’s Day
- Coordinate with Director of Religious Education (DRE) for regular confirmations, any special liturgy
- Coordinate with Chancery for any special liturgy; e.g.; RCIA for confirmation, Rite of Election, etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; must be a practicing Catholic and active in a parish; possess the ability to honor and maintain confidentiality; must work well with people of all walks of life and possess the ability to lead and train liturgical ministers
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Minimum of 1-2 years experience in Liturgical Ministry.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Driver’s License.
