Employment Status: Full-time or Part-time

FLSA Status: Non-exempt (hourly)

Reports to: Pastor

Work schedule: Candidates should have a flexible schedule to include working both weeknights and weekends.

The primary responsibility is to coordinate and prepare all liturgical celebrations, fostering an environment of prayer and worship.

The coordinator will work closely with all parish ministries to ensure that each celebration is well-planned and executed, including the provision of music for all parish liturgies and events. This individual may also serve as the musician, depending on qualifications.

This role oversees all aspects of parish worship, including the liturgical environment, volunteer coordination, worship aids, and special celebrations such as reconciliation services and funerals.

Essential job duties:

Select and prepare music for

  • 8 AM, 10:15 AM, and 5 PM Sunday Masses
  • Daily Masses Tuesday – Friday
  • Other special Masses (e.g., Triduum, First Communion, Confirmation, etc.)
  • Other Masses as needed (i.e., coverage for weekend Masses if required)

Ensure all Masses are fully prepared

  • Confirm Priest and Deacon assignments from the Mass Calendar
  • Ministries to include:
    • Sacristan
    • Lector(s)
    • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
    • Musician(s)
    • Greeters
    • Ushers
    • Altar Servers
    • Projection Ministers
    • Livestream team

    Selection of music:

  • Weekend Masses: Early enough for musicians to be prepared and practice.
  • Daily Masses: Up to musician, unless school Mass.

Share special notes with ministries:

  • Baptisms
  • Reserved pews
  • Vocation Chalice
  • Collaborate with music ministry leadership regarding Holy Days of Obligation
  • Ensure preparations are finalized at least one week before major celebrations

Lead liturgical ministry training and liturgy meetings as scheduled throughout the year
Approve the music of other musicians in the ministry

  • Ensure alignment with Church teaching
  • Ensure proper placement within the Mass
  • Verify copyright compliance

Foster an environment at each Mass that encourages full, active participation by the assembly
Coordinate weddings and funerals for families planning these celebrations

  • Collaborate with pastoral staff
  • Guide families in selecting appropriate and liturgically sound music
  • Lead music for celebrations when available
  • Weddings only:
    • Lead or coordinate rehearsal
    • Ensure everything runs smoothly on the wedding day

    Schedule periodic reviews of all music licenses and resolve any noncompliance

Requirements:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge and understanding of the liturgical seasons and the pastoral liturgy document Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship
  • Exhibit humility regarding one’s own knowledge, with a willingness to continue learning and growing
  • Ability to connect effectively with parishioners of all ages
  • Possess a welcoming and understanding demeanor
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various ministries
  • A bachelor’s degree in music, liturgy, ministry or other related degree is preferred, for the music portion needs proficiency in voice and piano or guitar

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
