We are currently seeking an experienced:

AI INTEGRATION ENGINEER III

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Leads the design and implementation of complex, high-impact AI agent systems and multi-step reasoning pipelines to automate workflows across clinical, operational, and administrative domains.
  • Builds and maintains AI integrations (e.g. Model Context Protocols, Universal Tool Calling Protocol), enabling AI models to securely access relevant tools, data sources, and organizational context.
  • Leads conversations and implementations on new AI model deployments and connections.
  • Architects and develops orchestration layers that coordinate agent behavior, manage state, handle retries, and ensure deterministic outcomes in complex workflows.
  • Evaluates and integrates AI frameworks, based on use case requirements and organizational standards.
  • Designs, builds, and maintains APIs to expose AI capabilities as internal services consumable by other applications and teams.
  • Develops microservices supporting AI pipeline components including data ingestion, preprocessing, inference routing, output validation, and logging.
  • Integrates AI services with existing healthcare systems such as EHRs, billing platforms, and care management tools via secure API connections.
  • Maintains API documentation, versioning, and service contracts to ensure reliability and ease of consumption across engineering teams.
  • Builds CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows for AI services, ensuring consistent, auditable, and reliable releases.
  • Implements observability tooling, such as logging, monitoring, and alerting, for AI pipelines and integration services in production.
  • Identifies and remediates performance bottlenecks, failure points, and latency issues within agentic and integration workflows.
  • Partners with Security to ensure all AI systems and integrations adhere to healthcare data security standards including HIPAA technical safeguards, DLP and organizational security policies.
  • Owns entire AI integration systems and cross-cutting technical concerns, ensuring cohesion, reliability, and scalability across the AI platform.
  • Defines, drives, and enforces AI integration best practices, coding standards, and design patterns across the development team.
  • Provides technical mentorship, guidance, and skill-building opportunities for engineers at all levels, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Serves as the escalation point for the most challenging AI integration problems, driving resolution in a timely manner.
  • Contributes to software development planning, timeframe estimation, and resource allocation at the team and cross-team level.
  • Reviews proposed AI projects and provides feedback on feasibility, risks, and technical approach.
  • Leads architecture reviews, code reviews, and engineering discussions to continuously raise the quality and maintainability of AI infrastructure.
  • Documents system designs, integration patterns, and runbooks to support long-term maintainability and team knowledge transfer.
  • Triages and provides operational support on a rotating basis, which may have off-hours support.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline AND 6+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on backend systems, API development, or systems integration.
  • In the absence of formal education, an equivalent of 9+ years’ relevant engineering experience is acceptable.
  • 5+ years of experience in agile software development, including knowing a variety of software languages such as C#, TypeScript, and Python.
  • 5+ years of experience building or working with AI/LLM-based systems, including agent frameworks or prompt-driven automation, with a strong preference towards Azure AI Foundry and Azure Open AI.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, maintaining and building RESTful APIs, SQL and Vector databases, system integrations and microservice architectures.
  • 3+ years of experience developing high-scale, distributed systems on a cloud platform (Azure preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience mentoring and coaching other engineers.
  • 2+ years of experience with prompt engineering and analysis.
  • Experience in a healthcare or post-acute care environment is strongly preferred. Expert-level, hands-on experience implementing AI integrations and building agentic AI workflows.
  • Expert knowledge of secure software development practices and data privacy considerations in regulated industries, including HIPAA technical safeguard requirements.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues (e.g., Azure Queue Storage, SQS) and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, AWS Step Functions) preferred.
  • Deep experience with cloud-native infrastructure patterns including serverless compute, managed container services, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Thorough understanding of sensitive data management, governance, and access control within multi-tenant or regulated systems.
  • Demonstrated capabilities managing development environment components including Git repositories, documentation hubs (e.g. Confluence), issue tracking systems (e.g. Jira), and deployment pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with ability to diagnose issues across distributed system boundaries.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills, both within a direct engineering team and across functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with full autonomy, make strategic technical decisions, and drive results with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to define and drive AI integration best practices and standards across multiple teams.
  • Strong knowledge of common AI techniques and refinement coordination such as retrieval-augmented generation and prompt engineering.
  • Demonstrates composure and positive leadership under high-pressure and stressful situations.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to balance short-term delivery needs with long-term technical objectives.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, processes, and team contributions to achieve target results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and other required software applications.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license.
