The purpose of this position guide is to establish and define the duties, responsibilities, authority and reporting relationship of the position of the Caregiver.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Know the location and disposition of all residents (under direct care) at all times.
  • Ensure each resident looks clean and presentable throughout the day.
  • Assist with dressing, applying make-up, combing hair, cleaning eyeglasses, and assisting with other personal grooming tasks as needed.
  • Keep resident' s rooms in proper order throughout the day, including tidying rooms, making beds, and putting clothes away.
  • Assist residents by providing for their comfort, safety and enjoyment. Keep any internal charts current, know of each resident's needs, and report all observed physical and emotional changes in residents to the Shift Manager and Assistant Administrator/Care Coordinator.
  • Report should occur by the end of the shift and should be documented in the change-over notes, unless immediate intervention is needed.
  • Attend periodic staff meetings and in-service training and mandatory meeting as required.
  • Read, follow and sign any care plans and posted messages and/or updates during each shift.
  • Observe Resident's Rights, as posted within the facility.
  • Promptly respond to resident calls for assistance. In Emergency situations, assist residents according to the Emergency Plan of the facility.
Requirements:

FUNCTIONAL ROLE:

The caregiver is the key person delivering the direct, hands-on care to the residents their work is the center piece of the facility's day to day operations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education Required: None Preferred:
  • Certified Nurse Assistant
  • Home Health Aide Certificate.
  • Other Each employee must have a physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician.
  • The tests are to be completed (with results) within seven (7) days after hire (unless regulations stipulate completion before employment.) If the exams are not completed within this time, the employee will be placed on suspension until they are completed. The Department of Social Services (DSS) licensing agency requires that fingerprint cards and an affidavit on criminal convictions be submitted for the purpose of conducting a criminal record review. The DSS will issue an approval or denial according to the criminal clearance reports. An approval must be obtained in order to retain employment
  • All employees must keep their FIRST-AID certification current.

Experience: At least some prior experience in caring for the elderly is preferred and be at least (18) years old.

Skills, knowledge and Abilities:

  • Skill in compassionately caring for elderly, knowledge of proper caregiving techniques, and the ability to care for several residents at one time.
  • Organizational Skills Must be able to maintain order and efficiency in performing job duties, maintain constant pace.
  • Mental: Must be able to handle stress well, stay calm under pressure. Must be able to think and make decisions consistent with policies and procedures and licensing regulations.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to either Shift Manager, Care Coordinator or Administrator.

  • Does not supervise any other employees
  • Caregivers only have the authority to perform their job duties and responsibilities
