Job Overview
This position under the direction of the General Manager, the Logistics Coordinator/Dispatcher will primarily be responsible for overseeing load planning and dispatch. This position will also coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly. The successful candidate must be resourceful in ensuring that our client’s needs are being fulfilled, while maintaining full compliance with applicable legislation and company protocol. Flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays with occasional overtime are required
Key Responsibilities
This position under the direction of the General Manager, the Logistics Coordinator/Dispatcher will primarily be responsible for overseeing load planning and dispatch. This position will also coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly. The successful candidate must be resourceful in ensuring that our client’s needs are being fulfilled, while maintaining full compliance with applicable legislation and company protocol. Flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays with occasional overtime are required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ensure the drivers have the proper instructions to perform their duties safely.
- Schedule deliveries and pickups with Customers and assign trucks/drivers to the loads.
- Generate necessary paperwork for loads and collect completed paperwork from Drivers.
- Ensure Drivers complete paperwork properly.
- Act on opportunities that would increase efficiency for both the Company and the customer.
- Dispatch drivers and owner operators using a fair and consistent approach.
- Coordinate the daily assignment of company and contracted resources to maximize equipment utilization and payload while maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Contact customers to generate backhauls and minimize empty miles.
- Coordinate the servicing and inspection of equipment with the shop personnel.
- Ensure trailer washes are completed where required.
- Ensure all orders and trip events are recorded in Truckmate in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Ensure that the driver has adequate time to perform his duties safely and within the Hours-of-service regulations.
- Ensure all drivers and equipment meet regulatory compliance. Assign the proper equipment for the various job requirements.
- Listen to all driver concerns and act on them appropriately.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma required
- Two to three years of related experience and/or training.
- Good knowledge of the transportation industry.
- Experience in bulk and/or tank/waste & flatbed is desirable.
