- Coach managers on communication, documentation and consistent application of company policies
- Administer benefits, leaves of absence, workplace accommodations and workers’ compensation matters
- Maintain compliance with federal, Michigan and local employment laws
- Maintain employee records, HR systems, policies and the employee handbook
- Oversee performance management, training and employee-development initiatives
- Monitor recruiting, turnover and other workforce trends and recommend improvements
- Continuously improve HR processes, systems and the overall employee experience
- Coordinate with the Payroll Specialist to ensure employee and compensation changes are accurate, documented and properly communicated
Qualifications & Experience
- Five or more years of progressive HR experience, including substantial responsibility for employee relations, investigations, recruiting and compliance
- Prior experience as an HR Manager, senior HR Generalist or similar hands-on HR leader
- Working knowledge of federal and Michigan employment laws
- Experience supporting hourly, salaried, commissioned and variable-compensation employees
- Automotive dealership, retail, hospitality or other multi-location service-business experience strongly preferred
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or a related field preferred
- SHRM or HRCI certification preferred but not required
Skills
- Sound judgment and the ability to handle sensitive employee matters appropriately
- Strong organization, time management and attention to detail
- Ability to balance competing priorities and respond effectively to time-sensitive matters
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort conducting investigations and having difficult conversations
- Practical, responsive and solutions-oriented approach
- Ability to build credibility with employees and senior leadership
- Strong follow-through and personal accountability
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Willingness to work regularly at both Metro Detroit locations
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary and annual performance bonus commensurate with experience and qualifications
- Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)
- Paid time off, holidays and employee recognition programs
