Job Description

Service Manager – Heavy Equipment

We are seeking an experienced and driven Service Manager to lead our Service Department operations within a dynamic heavy equipment organization. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing shop and field service functions, managing personnel, ensuring operational efficiency, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Summary of Primary Functions

  • Maintaining a schedule of shop work
  • Assigning personnel to specific work orders
  • Providing work direction to Service Technicians in the repair of equipment
  • Maintaining a schedule of field service work and assigning personnel accordingly
  • Managing and coordinating trucking for pick-up and delivery of equipment


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise all Service Department personnel
  • Oversee the opening and closing of work orders for effective job control
  • Maintain and monitor detailed records of technician time and performance
  • Schedule and monitor equipment pick-up and delivery
  • Frequently interact with customers to explain quotes and discuss any changes prior to service completion to ensure satisfaction
  • Identify and up-sell services necessary to improve equipment efficiency and safety
  • Stay current on product improvement programs from Deere
  • Coordinate with Deere on programs, warranties, and technical machine concerns
  • Order and maintain necessary shop supplies
  • Monitor customer satisfaction through phone calls and on-site visits
  • Interview, hire, and develop qualified personnel
  • Report shop goals and performance metrics to the General Manager
  • Assist in planning and developing service marketing programs
  • Act as site Safety Coordinator in conjunction with Dynamic Equipment Safety Program
  • Assess training needs and coordinate the delivery of required training programs
  • Other duties may be assigned


What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Two-year certificate from a college or technical school and five (5) years of related experience desired; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Heavy equipment service experience may substitute for or be combined with education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in sales or customer service a plus
  • Preferred: Previous experience as a Service Manager in construction, heavy equipment, or rental industry
  • Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish)

  • Strong ability to supervise, coach, and motivate service personnel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the public

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Strong computer proficiency
  • Ability to calculate discounts, commissions, percentages, area, volume, and apply basic algebra, statistics, and geometry
  • Strong reasoning skills with the ability to solve practical problems in environments with limited standardization
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions
