Sr. Associate, Tax Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Associate, Tax Manager based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to support complex tax operations within a global financial services environment.
The position focuses on income tax accounting, investment-related tax matters, and the implementation of evolving tax requirements.
You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and effective tax processes.
Working closely with Finance, Treasury, Legal, and external advisors, you will help solve complex tax challenges and improve operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, analytical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex tax topics clearly.
This position provides exposure to sophisticated investment structures, strategic initiatives, and opportunities to leverage technology to enhance tax processes.

Accountabilities:

The Sr. Associate, Tax Manager will manage key tax accounting and compliance activities while serving as a trusted technical resource across the organization. This role requires strong knowledge of tax regulations, financial reporting requirements, and investment-related tax considerations, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Manage the annual and quarterly income tax provision process under ASC 740, including current and deferred tax calculations.
  • Prepare and review effective tax rate analyses, management reporting metrics, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain deferred tax assets and liabilities, including valuation allowance assessments and reconciliation processes.
  • Analyze the tax impact of intercompany transactions, separate company calculations, and consolidated return adjustments.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during tax provision reviews, responding to inquiries and providing required documentation.
  • Enhance tax provision models, processes, and internal controls to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepare tax footnotes and financial statement disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage tax matters related to investment portfolios, including fixed income, equity investments, alternatives, and derivatives.
  • Partner with Treasury and Investment teams to evaluate tax impacts of portfolio transactions, restructuring activities, and new investment vehicles.
  • Maintain expertise in investment-related tax reporting tools and collaborate with external technology providers.
  • Support the implementation of tax planning initiatives, including credits, incentives, and accounting method changes.
  • Monitor and interpret tax legislation, regulations, and IRS guidance to ensure accurate application across business activities.
  • Manage responses to federal and state tax audits, notices, and information document requests.
  • Maintain tax technical documentation, policies, and procedures to reflect current requirements.
  • Assist with preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local income tax filings.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Strategic Finance, Legal, and Treasury teams on tax-related business initiatives.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to junior tax professionals.
Requirements:

The successful candidate will bring strong corporate tax experience, technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to manage complex tax matters in a collaborative environment. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to improving processes through technology and automation.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification required.
  • 4–7+ years of progressive corporate tax experience in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and/or industry.
  • Strong expertise in ASC 740 income tax accounting and financial statement tax reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing investment tax matters, including alternative investments.
  • Strong tax research skills with the ability to interpret and apply the Internal Revenue Code, regulations, and case law.
  • Experience with tax provision software such as Corptax and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax topics to non-tax stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Interest in using technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve tax processes and efficiency.
  • Experience in financial services, insurance, or investment management industries preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Taxation (MST or LLM) preferred.
  • Experience with state and local tax matters, including nexus analysis and apportionment, is a plus.
  • Exposure to tax technology solutions, process automation, and investment software such as Clearwater is preferred.
