Manager, Project Accounting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, Project Accounting based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to lead a critical project accounting function within a large, complex organization supporting impactful projects and business operations.
The position combines financial leadership, process improvement, and team development responsibilities.
You will oversee accurate project financial administration, revenue recognition, reporting, and compliance activities while driving operational excellence.
Working closely with project leaders, finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholders, you will help improve financial performance and decision-making.

Accountabilities:

The Manager, Project Accounting will oversee project accounting operations, ensure financial accuracy, and lead initiatives that improve efficiency and business performance. The role requires strong collaboration with operational teams and finance stakeholders to support successful project delivery.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of project accounting professionals through workload planning, performance management, feedback, and career development.
  • Oversee project accounting activities across projects of varying complexity, ensuring accurate revenue review, unbilled balance management, adjustments, and financial transactions.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes while maintaining compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with project managers, operational leaders, finance systems teams, IT, and other stakeholders to improve financial reporting, billing processes, and revenue recognition practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process automation, workflow optimization, standardization, performance tracking, and technology adoption.
  • Develop and maintain project accounting procedures, documentation, and best practices while supporting audits and compliance activities.
  • Identify financial and operational risks and implement solutions to improve accuracy, scalability, and service delivery.
  • Support additional projects and strategic initiatives as needed to strengthen accounting operations.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings strong project accounting expertise, leadership capabilities, and experience managing financial operations in complex, project-driven environments. They should be comfortable working with cross-functional teams and driving process improvements.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent directly related experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in accounting, financial operations, or project accounting.
  • Advanced knowledge of project accounting principles, revenue recognition concepts, and financial reporting practices.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing accounting or finance teams.
  • Experience managing workloads, allocating resources, and delivering results in deadline-driven environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Advanced proficiency with enterprise financial systems such as Oracle and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel.
  • Experience supporting process improvement, automation, and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Preferred experience in engineering, consulting, professional services, or other project-based organizations.
  • Experience managing complex project portfolios and partnering with business leaders to improve financial performance.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required by business needs (10% or less).
