Job Description:
The City of Chesapeake Public Works department is seeking an enthusiastic individual who is detail-oriented to provide management of GIS data focusing on storm water and transportation systems.
The GIS Specialist will perform a wide array of activities, including geospatial data creation and maintenance, web app configuration, and spatial analysis with the City’s Geographic Information System. They will work in close collaboration with the City’s core GIS team who are responsible for city wide technology projects and infrastructure management.

Essential Responsibilities
- User and administrator experience with the ESRI ArcGIS suite of products in an Enterprise environment (Pro, Portal, Geodatabases, ArcGIS Online).
- Demonstrated cartographic design and high-quality map standards.
- Create information products (maps, reports, etc.) using ArcGIS software, geoprocessing tools, and other methods.
- Develop tools and applications to support staff from many departments and the community.
- Maintain data for key infrastructure including storm water facilities, street landscapes, and other assets.
- Perform data maintenance from a variety of source materials (imagery, surveys, as-builts, etc.).
- Provide end-user support services for GIS software and web applications.
- Provide GIS support to Emergency Operations during events such as hurricane recovery and snow/ice control.

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this job class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

- Knowledge in government operations, city planning, or related fields.
- Proficient with reading and interpreting construction record drawings, plats and surveys.
