Your Mission
Support a mission-focused public affairs program in Norfolk, Virginia by helping communicate the command’s voice to internal audiences, industry partners, the public, and media stakeholders. This role supports command leadership, public affairs planning, multimedia production, digital communications, event support, emergency communications, and timely responses to public information requests.
What You’ll Do
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will support command communications and public affairs operations through the following responsibilities:
· Collaborate with Executive Staff, the Commanding Officer (CO), Executive Officer (XO), Executive Director (ED), Department Heads, the Public Affairs Division Head, and command personnel to maintain a robust public affairs program.
· Support conceptualizing, planning, administering, and evaluating the program’s voice to industry and the public.
· Provide professional photography, video, and audio services for command events.
· Develop, write, edit, and submit articles for publication in regional Navy newspapers, the MARMC Monthly newsletter, Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center (CNRMC), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and Navy news websites.
· Create, develop, and provide invitations, tickets, flyers, booklets, programs, and pamphlets for special events.
· Participate in crisis communications by supplying pertinent information to civilian public affairs personnel for dissemination to media.
· Serve as a member of the MARMC Fire Response Team (FRT) and as a Public Affairs representative in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
· Provide on-site incident support to assist with media control, provide timely facts regarding the incident, and capture digital photographs.
· Serve as a customer service advocate.
· Update and maintain the command web calendar with all command events.
· Maintain the scrolling banner in CEP-200.
· Update the command’s information and weather advisory line weekly or as needed to inform the command of base closures or delays due to inclement weather.
· Establish storyboards, capture professional photographs, and conduct interviews for communication products.
· Set up event sites and audio equipment for award ceremonies, changes of command, and other large events.
· Create, upload, and maintain slide presentations on the MARMC website.
· Update and maintain Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and digital signage.
· Create how-to learning materials and advertising trifolds.
· Respond timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs and services.

Requirements: Minimum Qualifications / Resume Requirements· Experience supporting public affairs, communications, media relations, strategic communications, journalism, multimedia production, or related communication programs.
· Ability to develop, write, edit, and submit articles, newsletters, web content, event materials, public information products, and other communication deliverables.
· Experience providing photography, video, audio, interview, storyboard, or multimedia support for events, publications, web content, or digital platforms.
· Ability to support command events, ceremonies, public affairs activities, and digital communication channels.
· Ability to respond timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs and services.
· Must be able to meet all contract, customer, and worksite access requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience supporting U.S. Navy, Department of Defense, federal government, or command-level public affairs programs.
· Familiarity with Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center (CNRMC), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Navy news websites, or Navy communication channels.
· Experience maintaining websites, social media channels, digital signage, web calendars, advisory lines, or public information platforms.
· Experience supporting crisis communications, emergency operations, incident response, media control, or emergency communication centers.
· Experience supporting award ceremonies, changes of command, special events, or large command events.
· Proficiency creating flyers, invitations, tickets, booklets, programs, pamphlets, trifolds, slide presentations, and other public-facing communication materials.
Physical Requirements
· Must be able to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time.
· Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and similar resources.
· Must be able to frequently communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, including delivering presentations.
· Must be able to exchange accurate information in professional communication settings.

Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, education, certifications, active clearance status, specialized technical qualifications, and contract requirements.
