About This Position
Position Description: JOB TITLE: Controller
STATUS: Full Time
REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer
SUMMARY: The Controller manages the accounting and finance operations of the company and is responsible for ensuring the companys financial health. They are also responsible for financial reporting, tax compliance, and oversees the Accounting Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:
Management
- Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Manage outsourced functions related to accounting
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the departments goals and objectives
- Leadership and Team Development: mentoring, training and developing the skills of the accounting team to foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment
- Encourage professional growth through continuous learning opportunities and feedback sessions
- Strategic financial planning and advise the executive team on financial strategy and its impact on the company's overall strategy
- Identify and manage financial risks, including developing risk management policies and procedures
- Leverage technology and financial systems to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting
Transactions
- Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
- Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
- Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
- Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
- Maintain the chart of accounts
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
- Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
Reporting
- Issue timely and complete financial statements
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
- Provide for a system of management cost reports
- Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for pricing decisions and contract negotiations
- Asset tracking
Compliance
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Uphold ethical standards and ensure compliance with all financial regulations and laws
- Coordinate and maintain business, auto, cyber and workers comp insurance changes, renewals
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- The controller candidate should have a Bachelors degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation.
- Strong knowledge of Quickbooks and Microsoft Office products.
