We are currently hiring for an Operations Supervisor at our Richmond Transload facility.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Operation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the import warehousing activities. This role ensures the efficient execution of core production tasks while promoting safety, quality, and a high standard of customer service. The Supervisor drives productivity within the warehouse team and ensures that daily operational goals are consistently met or exceeded. This is achieved in accordance with the Collective Agreement, while effectively supervising unionized employees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations - Day to Day Duties

  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by overseeing the accurate receiving, identification, dispatching, and quality assurance of goods.
  • Provide effective on-site leadership, including administering corrective feedback and managing escalated disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Monitor, measure, and report on the effectiveness of warehouse activities and individual employee performance.
  • Maintain organized and efficient inventory across all storage areas.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all inbound and outbound shipments, as well as inventory transactions.
  • Train, mentor, and coach both new hires and existing team members to promote continuous learning and development.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders by responding to inquiries and resolving issues professionally and promptly.
  • Accurately maintain records of inventory items and other key documentation; use data and reports to evaluate warehouse performance.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for improvement within the warehouse and terminal, implementing changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Analyze current operational procedures and recommend innovative solutions or enhancements to management.
  • Coordinate with other departments and advise team members on operational priorities and tasks.
  • Support conflict resolution within the team, promoting a collaborative and respectful work environment.

Planning and Compliance

  • Assess staffing needs, develop schedules, and assign workloads to optimize productivity and meet operational demands.
  • Ensure full compliance with outbound load requirements, including the safe bracing and blocking of shipments in preparation for transport.


WHAT YOU BRING

Knowledge

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of experience as a Warehouse Supervisor or equivalent education/training in Supply Chain Operations.
  • In-depth understanding of containerized exports, container terminals, and logistics is essential.
  • At least 2 years of direct supervisory experience in an industrial setting, preferably within a unionized environment.
  • Experience in waterfront operations (terminals, stevedoring, warehousing, or transportation) is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with various warehouse management systems (WMS) is an asset.
  • Hands-on experience with warehouse or transportation equipment is an asset.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities; capable of motivating and engaging teams effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for data input, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to interpret, calculate, document, and communicate effectively.

Abilities

  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to accurately input, retrieve, and analyze data.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve problems, assess operational performance, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to translate strategic goals into operational outcomes and guide teams accordingly.
  • Demonstrated capability in setting direction for self and others, and in holding teams accountable.
  • Skilled in supervising, coaching, mentoring, and leading staff effectively.
  • Confident decision-maker with the ability to influence change and support sound decision-making.
  • Physically capable of climbing machinery and lifting up to 50 pounds.

COMMUNICATION

  • This position is responsible for daily communication with terminal staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • As a customer facing role, it requires professionalism to meet customer needs and maintain high levels of satisfaction.
  • External communication with suppliers, vendors, regulators, and safety associations will also be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This role requires a consistent, daily presence onsite and involves prolonged periods of standing and/or sitting (up to 8 hours per day).
  • Regular exposure to varying outdoor conditions—including heat, cold, rain, and ambient noise—is expected.
  • Frequent interaction with active heavy equipment in the terminal necessitates heightened situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • The position involves a high degree of mental focus, requiring sustained attention to detail and accuracy throughout the day.
  • Occasional travel between terminals or to off-site meetings may be required, involving minimal personal schedule flexibility.

Monday to Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Flexibility for occasional weekend and holiday work will be required.
