Job Description
The General Laborer supports the installation of Division 28 low-voltage systems within mission-critical data center environments. This role assists technicians and project teams with material handling, equipment staging, cable pathway preparation, housekeeping, and other construction support activities. The General Laborer plays a key role in maintaining a safe, organized, and productive job site while ensuring work is completed in accordance with project schedules and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist Division 28 technicians with the installation of electronic security and life safety systems.
- Transport, stage, and organize materials, equipment, and tools throughout the project site.
- Prepare work areas by setting up ladders, lifts, barricades, and other job site equipment.
- Assist with pulling, dressing, labeling, and securing low-voltage cabling under the direction of lead technicians.
- Install and assemble cable supports, J-hooks, sleeves, and other pathway components.
- Unpack, inventory, and organize equipment deliveries, verifying materials against packing lists.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas by removing debris and disposing of packaging materials.
- Assist with mounting equipment racks, cabinets, backboards, and hardware.
- Support installation of access control devices, CCTV cameras, intrusion detection devices, and related Division 28 equipment as directed.
- Perform fire stopping and sealing of penetrations when trained and authorized.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and data center operational requirements.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Report material shortages, damaged equipment, or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous construction or general labor experience preferred.
- Experience in commercial construction or low-voltage systems is a plus but not required.
- Ability to learn Division 28 security and life safety installation practices.
- Basic understanding of hand and power tools.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and climb throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts when properly trained.
- Ability to work in active construction and data center environments.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.
- Commercial construction sites and mission-critical data centers.
- Indoor work with occasional exposure to noise, dust, and changing construction conditions.
- May require overtime, weekend work, or night shifts based on project schedules.
- Must be able to pass background checks and meet customer security requirements for data center access.
