Job Description
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Community Wellness Worker Full-Time contract ending March 31, 2027Location – Kenora / Dryden Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services (AAFS) is seeking a Community Wellness Worker to promote holistic well-being withinFirst Nation communities through culturally respectful and community-driven initiatives. The position focuses on fosteringcommunity resilience, supporting mental health, and enhancing overall wellness by collaborating with community members,families, and service providers.
Working under the direction of the Resource Manager – Family Support Programs, the Community Wellness Worker will develop and implement community-based wellness initiatives, facilitate culturally relevant programming, and build partnerships to support community health and vitality.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver community wellness programs that promote mental, emotional, and physical health.Engage with community members to identify wellness needs and create culturally appropriate strategies.Support individuals and families in accessing mental health, addiction, and social services.Facilitate group activities, workshops, and traditional practices that strengthen community resilience.Collaborate with community leaders, health providers, and organizations to coordinate wellness initiatives.Provide culturally respectful support and guidance to community members.Maintain accurate records of community activities, program participation, and outcomes.Advocate for community needs and contribute to the development of community wellness plans.Promote traditional practices, ceremonies, and cultural knowledge as integral to wellness.Travel within First Nation communities to support outreach and program delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree or Community College Diploma in Social Services, Child and Youth Care, or a related human services field. However, a combination of skills, education and experience may be considered;Experience working with children, youth, and families in a community or social service environment.Demonstrated understanding of the challenges affecting First Nation children and families.Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and child welfare service principles.Familiarity with Customary Care practices and First Nation community structures is considered an asset.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build supportive relationships with families and youth.Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Effective organizational and time-management skills.Experience using office software and client documentation systems.Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics.Valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Driver’s Abstract required.First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset.Ability to speak Ojibway is considered a valuable asset.
